Cooler air=More power

If it is true.why don't we remove the big plastic box which is just right under the air filter?then the engine will suck the frensh air just behind the bumper, not beside the hot engine anymore.I know some of you will say there is risk of dirt into the engine, but that's why we have a air filter.am i right?

they put that box there
for two reason i think,
a, if you look in the box theres passages of air ways in there so that big debris can't get sucked up...helps keep the air filter cleaner and filtering for smaller things
b, it can help preventing water getting sucked up through the intake

i also think its to silence the intake when full throttle. many would rather prefer quiet engine
removing that box may help to get more air in but then again chances of other things start to go up too....

That's the whole reason for getting a CAI (Cold Air Intake). You remove the stock airbox and the resonator from inside the fenderwell. The airfilter then goes inside the fenderwell where it can draw cooler air.

Quite a few people here have already removed the resonator.
It's a free mod, no reason not to. Sound good too... just a
bit more high rpm growl. You'd have to drive into a swimming
pool to suck water though. And dirt isn't too bad because you're
still behind your inspection shield.

You are very right. Adding a High flow filter in the airbox like Comptech or K&N will enhanced your intake further more.

The CAI will have a greater chance of water induction and get a lot more dirty.

Injen offers a heatshield on its intake to filter out any hot air being taken in by the intake. Also, AEM offers the bypass-valve, which helps in a way of unwanted substances (water, snow, etc.) from being taken in by the intake as well.

cold air+ low humidity works best...u can feel it more livier...

my old regal has significant difference for the weather change as the 3.8liter pulls a lot stronger during cold days and on the other hand it doesn't have the off the line punch during the hot summer days...even with no A/C on...

i wouldn't want to take away that plastic box...every parts in the car is there for a reason...i don't know how it works but i wouldn't do sth that would damage my engine...

A CAI plus bypass valve. Sure the filter gets dirty, but that is the price you pay for 5-7 hp.

I don't know... I personally think that with the metal piping, it actually heats up the air it sucks in... and on top of that, I think it's quite annoying with the noise... :o
