Convince me to buy a TL-S.....RESULTS
Hi All:
It's been almost two days since I posted the original question of which car 'I' should buy. Here are some results and my thoughts.
From this board:
Buy a GS.....2 replies (and both posters also post on the Lexus board)
Buy a TL.....5 replies
Neutral opinion....6 replies (people who spoke well of both cars)
Not applicable.....12 replies
I posted the same question on the Lexus board under the heading "convince me to by a GS300"
Buy a GS......11 replies
Buy a TL ........1 reply (the poster said, he liked GS, I might not)
Neutral opinion.... 6 replies (people who spoke well of both cars)
Not applicable ......5 replies
So, from both boards, out of 30 applicable replies, we get 43%GS,
20% TLS, and 36% neutral.
Most likely I WILL buy the GS and here's MY reason that tips the scales. I live in the city and spend much time in slow city traffic. The GS interior is so nice, it will be fun at 20 mph or even standing still. If I was only highway driving, it would be a much tougher call.
One of the best suggestions came from the TL board. Someone suggested my three choices should be: #1 a used GS400, #2 new TLS, #3 new GS300. Even though I like new, that is definitley something to chew over while I shop and test drive.
I'd like to thank those that replied. All input was much appreciated.
Gerry

Honestly, no matter what car you buy in that group, you stand to win either way. They are all reliable, offer a good amount of luxury, and have excellent resale value. And this board and ClubLexus will have alot to offer in terms of ownership. Good luck !!

I usually only read these posts but I feel that I needed to reply to this one. This forum is excellent not only for it's enthusiam for the TL but also for automobiling in general. The results of this informal poll displays this by showing a higher percentage toward neutrality or the GS than the Lexus board. Kudos to the members of this forum.

How can you put a GS300 in the same class as the TLS??? The GS300 starts at an MSRP of $39180, so w/ options the price will soar above $40k. If you are looking for something with comfort and speed take a look at the new I35. You can get one for $35k loaded including Navigation and with a considerable discount in about 30 days if not sooner. Oh well, it's just an opinion. If I had an extra 13K to spend on a car, I'd be buying the GS300 without even thinking about it. That car is better in every sense other than straight line speed. I don't have that extra cash, so I'd go with an I35.

With regards to the reason of partialty on ClubLexus, I belong to that also and the reason I think they feel that way is because pricerange usually dictates competition between car companies. GS300 owners usually look to the BMW 525/530 and MB E320, hence you see ES300/TL comparos. The TLS is hard to pigeonhole as not many companies have a "sport edition" at that priceline, maybe the Maxima.

Yeah, if I had known the price of the used GS400 and how freakin
nice the interior on those guys are... I would have picked one up
over my TLS. But, as it is... I'm still happy. GS300 is right out though. =P
You have to get the brawn, it's meant to be a sports sedan.

well, if you want the speed get TLS. GS300 transmission is not smooth as ours. They had posted several problems on engine transmission on 300, and wind noise is second items for such a nice car. Luxury i rather choose GS 300, wider and bigger. At that price near 40K, I will look for Audi 6, they changed several exterior demention and it is all wheel drive. Should be fast enough to enjoy around 45K. Infinity, I35 is not my choice I really don't like the design, and resale value is not there yet. But luxurious than TLS. Well, for the money TLS, for the luxury Lexus GS, for the upgrade overall go for Audi 6, better be good.

I like the idea of the A6 as well. All wheel drive and free maintenance. That is tough to beat. If you have the cash, the 2002 745i is unbelievable!! Check it out on Edmunds.com reviews.

The A6 turbo or 4.2 are great cars, I like the interior not a huge fan of the exterior. AWD is cool but makes the car heavier than the competition. Thank goodness you have so many diff cars to choose from.
I agree with TedC over the partiality because of price at CL.

I must say, I saw a GS430, brand new (dealer plates) on the Hutch this morning. Man that car is hot. I feel bad for the guy who bought it though b/c the guy was cruising and weaving. Man, that could very well be my next car. Then again, by the time I'm ready for a new car who knows what will be out.....
