Best guess was at least $8,000 to $10,000

Gotta remember all the computer stuff that needs to be changed. It was so easily back in the 70s.

Also consider that there is no center console for a TL 6-speed. Someone would have to fabricate something for you.

I also noticed that the engine mounts on the CLS 6-speed are different than they are on the auto. Wonder what changed.

Bottom line, IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

That's what they told me when I put a six-speed into my old Camaro back in '95. Now, everyone's doing it.

It would be cost-prohibitive, though. All you really need to do is study the differences in the CL-S auto and CL-S 6, and figure out how to port the goods to the TL-S. I'm certain I could do it, and the console would be the least of my worries.

Not only would you need to come up with a console, but I believe the engine is slightly different too. The 6-speed has an LSD and no VSA, so you would have to remove the VSA and install the LSD on the TL-S... not sure if it would fit into the TL-S engine bay. There are obvious differences which is why the 6-speed guys need different headers from the auto guys. My guess would be along the lines of NSXNEXT's..... $8-$10k easily.....

If I were you I'd either get the CL-S manual or wait to see what happens with the TL for '04.....

Yeah but back in 95, the car's electronics were not so sophisticated. The TL is a totally different animal.

Also keep in mind the 95 Camaro was offered in a 5-speed manual. So it was pretty easy to get console pieces to convert an auto to a 6-speed.

Once again, it ain't gonna happen.

The six-speed went into a 1980. I heard it all then- console won't work, no flywheel exists, factory clutch won't work, crossmember doesn't fit, and it won't fit into the tunnel. BUT, it did.

Standing offer- if anyone wants to pony up cost of parts, and give me their car for a few months, I GUARANTEE I could get it done. It'll take a while, as I'm just an enthusiast, not a professional.

Things to do-

1. VSA- could simply just be turned off. You might have to live with a code.
2. Clutch/brake pedal & hydraulics- right off the CL-S.
3. Console/stick location- will likely pop through in close to the same position. I could probably adapt various pieces (boot, etc) from the CL-S, but I'd have to see it to be sure.
4. Front crossmember/subframe- maybe it's different. If so, that'll cost.
5. CL-S6 computer coudl probably be used, which would negate the whole VSA thing, anyway.

Various other things I'm sure I haven't thought of. If it was impossible, Acura couldn't have done it. It's simply a question of-
1. How much do you want to spend?
2. How long are you willing to take?

Don't forget you'd also have to move the parking brake from the floor to the center console to make room for the clutch

I agree totally, it would be a waste. That could be a downpayment on a better car, or you could invest it.

I doubt it. I'd have to see the CL-S pedal spacing to be sure, though. Don't forget- virtually all GM cars in the '70s had the parking brake on the floor, right next to the clutch. I drive one.

I'm fairly certain this could be done for under $5000, for the DIYer.

As far as being stupid, there are many guys here that will drop over that on some 19" wheels and a bodykit. I think that's dumb, but it comes down to a matter of personal preference.

It's an interesting idea, to make the TL into a manual. But, seriously... WHY??? If you want a manual car, there are so many other cars that were built as a manual already... i don't think that the TL was really made to be a manual transmission car.
But like it was said, it is really up to the person to decide what they want... whatever floats your boat.

Just trade in the car and get a CL 6spd.
