Console Storage Compartment Door Opens By Itself
After owning my TL-S since late May, I've noticed that my center console compartment door (lower compartment) opens all by itself when exposed to high heat conditions. This really hasn't revealed itself until mid-June when the temperature began reaching 90 degrees. If I manually bend the plastic catching latch in (towards rear of car) I can usually get the door to remain closed. I performed a search in the forum database and couldn't find anyone with a similar defect. And, I've yet to go to the dealer with the issue, but expect to make some noise about it at the first oil change (1500 miles away). Anyone else have this problem?

Just take it to the dealer, they will take care of it. It is a common problem that most ppl have and they will install a new hatch so it won't pop off on its own. I am fortunate that I don't have this problem. (knock on wood)

I have this problem, and have posted on it before. The dealer already made one attempt to "adjust" it, which lasted 2 days. Now it won't even close at all. I am having it replaced next week.
The weird thing is, I never had this problem on my '00 TL. I don't know why they would have changed the latch design for the '02. I could have sworn, though, that the latch on the '00 was metal, and this one is plastic, but maybe I'm just remembering it wrong.

OK, one last time I am going to post on this. For the levitating center console cover/lid problem I first had my latch replaced and then the top/cover replaced, no difference still would rise on it's own. The dealership had to order a whole new center console cover/top PLUS the mounting assembly; this included the bracket and the console cover/top. They then had to remove all of the console trim and remove the cover from the rear a/c vents to access the bracket assembly and then remove the original center console assembly. They then replaced this with the new "complete" center console assembly and all is now fine. It would appear that some of the brackets that actually mount the center console lid are slightly out of alignment/true and a cover or latch replacement WILL NOT solve this mis-alignment problem; it's in the mounting bracket itself.
