Confused about Exhaust = HP increase?

Many people have said that my A'PEXi WS Exhaust basically does nothing to improve or increase my HP. However, I read in many car magazines and I always find it weird that they always claim that adding an aftermarket exhaust (whatevery brand they decided to pick that month) adds HP, usually around 5-8 more horses and they prove it with Dyno tests. So what's the real deal?

Its because our stock exhaust system is already a high-flow exhaust with a fairly large diameter. That's why people end up putting the 3A tips on.

comptech had a dyno showing that the mufflers only added something like 1-2 hp. i believe there new cat back was supposed to make like 8 hp.(not positive on that though) mufflers on our cars just dont make that much hp. the 2 BEST HP gainers are a CAI and HEADERS. the mufflers are more for the sound

depends on the exhaust...a cat-back will definitley give more over an axle-back

i was wondering, are the pipes on the TL-S the same size as the TL-P?

Well, I'm not one to get mufflers or tips anyways, so that was why I got a cat-back. In the long run, you can expect to make some kind of Hp, if you heavily mod your engine. But hey, that is all on you. As far as just an exhaust and a substantial Hp increase...don't bet on it.

The Comptech Cat-back exhaust is really meant for supercharged applications. The gains on a normal N/A car with the Comptech Cat-back is going to be minimal just like with the axel backs.

On a car like a civic where the exhaust pipe diameter is really small, your gains will be larger than with the TL-S so thats why some magazines will show a 5-8hp gain with an exhaust ... all depends on the car itself.

the biggest restriction on the TL is the 2 resonators and the 3 feet or so of pipe that is right before the exhaust Y that is flattened out

Im not sure but, I heard that There is no meaning of adding only exhaust muffler.

Because in order to help the flow of exhaust gas, you need larger diameter pipe AND better flow Muffler.

So with stock exhaust pipe (From Headers to mufflers), mufflers would not do any good to your Horse Power..

I think the enlarged diameter of pipe with high-flow mufflers will do it for you.

There are 2 resonators. One large and one small.

Question

You think getting headers and high flow intake is the best way to increase HP?
Leave the exhaust the way it is?

for this car, yes. exhaust is already high flow.

I got the comptech exhaust strictly for the sounds. I have everything else done so I wanted to be able to hear the power. The stocks are too quiet.

don't believe everything you read in mags. Best advise is to listen to people who have actually done the mods and then been to the dyno and/or the track. It seems from the majority of people here that cat-backs do really nothing for the TL's, but headers do, I'd believe that.
