I don't believe it for a second. Why would Acura release the car in March 2001 as a 2002 model, then re-release it with a stick this fall? What will it be, a 2002 1/2 when it's released in fall 2001? On the CL-S it's a little more believable, but not by much. Dealers around me are saying the 2002 CL-S will be out around July, but now people are saying that a stick will be available in the fall. Are they going to release it twice? Also you have to keep in mind that the people on these boards are in the minority. Acura's demographics are an older crowd, 99.9% of who want a luxo automobile with an automatic. If they come out with it, then cool, but I'll believe it when I see it....

Here is vague reference to a CL with a manual but no mention of a mod to the TL. It is certainly not confirmation!

Stop spreading all those rumors.
I called Acura customer service, and they said there is no plans for the manual TL.
Stop believing everything you read on forums.
You want to be sure, just pick up the phone.

I heard that Acura, in the Flintstone spirit, is actually putting out a TL S with holes in the floor so you can actually use your own legs to power the car.
This is from a source I have come to trust over the years.
I can't wait for it cause I can run pretty fast.

The Lincoln LS offers a 6-speed (or is it a five-speed .. prolly a five) in their V6 LS, not the higher, 252 hp V8. I stand by Juniorbean and Closer -- demographically speaking, Acura isn't really gunna appeal to many people w/ this stick -- I read on the cl forum that for every 100 199X Legend Coupes sold (w/ the optional stick), only 1 was a manual -- it definitely wasn't popular -- even back then. Plus -- with the economy the way it is and w/ all the TL-S's sitting on the lots (as people are still mentioning) -- I don't see many of the manuals selling either!

The normal Acura/Honda model design cycle is four years, except the 3-year Vigor, the 7-year Integra, and the NSX. So we almost always see a minor facelift and upgrades after two years and a major one (complete redesign) after four years when a new car comes out. The model year release date is in the fall like most other car manufacturers.
The TL was first released as '99 (model year, not calender year). So the minor facelift would be done in '01, according to the normal Honda schedule. I suspect Honda could not release the '01 TL-S in time last fall. So Honda continue to sell the '00 which was renamed '01. Hence the '01 is exactly the same as the '00. The '02 TL/TL-S is, in a sense, a late release of the '01 car. So I am not surprise if Honda will put something new in the "real" '02 car this fall.
I ask the service guy (Mike) at Rick case Acura in Fl. He confirms that that will have a six speed manual trans. for the CL type S in 6 months. He is not sure about he TL type S, but he said that it would most likely be implemented on the TL type S too.
Just hope that they do. I am, for the TL of course.

I first got the 6-speed Type S information from Doug, service manager at Rick Case Acura in Fort Lauderdale. He knows his stuff and he wouldn't pass off info that he wasn't convinced was true himself.

Last I heard, Acura was moving to a 5 year or longer production cycle. Makes sense when you think about it, less time spent on redesigning the entire car, more time spent on upgrading the guts and making it a better value. Mercedes and BMW follow this model. How many different styles of S-class Mercedes have you seen on the road? Now compare to Honda Accords. ;-)
Now that would make a great car better...
can't wait...to run....I wonder what the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times would say....
0-60 : Good Luck getting to 60
1/4 mile: 1 minute depending on driver/runner
LoL

LMAO
!!
Watch, it'll be a 5-speed, only available on the CL-P model or something dumb. I can't wait to drive a CL-S when/if it does come out with a manual. But, I can't imagine having to drive a stick on a car this size (TL-S) every single day.

Aralan - you're on to something here. It's fine for Honda to redesign cars every 4 years, but Acura should seriously consider going to longer cycles. Most luxury brands are on 5-7 year cycles.
I think one of the reasons is resale value. Luxury car buyers expect their cars to retain their value better than, say, a Ford Taurus. When you redesign the car too often, it makes the old models look dated quickly and hurts their resale value. If you do this over a long period of time, you may lose customers to other luxury brands because you keep pulling the rug out from under them resale wise.
Of course, the flip side is that redesigned models spur new sales - look how many 2nd gen TL owners like myself traded up to the TLS. So, I guess the trick is to find a good balance between refreshing your line to attract new buyers and protecting the resale value of your current customers. Sounds like a tricky business if you ask me - guess I'll stick to programming 'dem 'der computer thinga-ma-jigs.

For what that's worth =)
If you recall, last December I posted that the 2002 model line up had VIN code numbers reserved that differiated a 6 speed manual transmission. They are still in Acura's system, have the service manager look them up. However, they may be there as a placeholder and never used.
