The diameter of sway bars doesn't tell the whole story.

I'm pretty sure that Comptech front sways are stiffer than stock.

Both are tubular but I believe the Comptechs are thicker tubes (ie. more bar, less hole).

So how does one go about buying Polyurethane bushings?

My weekend test drive of Comptech sways only vs Comptech springs only lead me to conclude without a doubt that sways are 80% of the handling improvement. I'm going to start a seperate post on this.

i installed HR sports first.
result: handling improved a bit but not a major difference, but at least the car looks more aggressive. ride became slightly rougher but still comfortable

few months later, i installed the CT Sways.
result: body definitely feels tighter and body roll during slight maneuvers have disappeared. however, not the improvement i expected on major turns.

from these mods you do get handling improvements BUT dont expect too much. however, i am still happy with the changes that i made.

im thinking that better shocks and better tires are the answer but i wont know till i install it.

dj5,

Any idea where we can buy the polyurethane bushings? That sounds like a good place to start before spending $300+ on Comptech sway bars...

Okay, well I ordered 'em and took the easy road of having them installed, too. They're not in yet, but I'm paying $440 out the door for the CT sways with installation. Should be some time next week, hopefully by Wednesday.

Good grief ... it's been about 3 weeks since the CT Sways were installed, and man is it squeaking like a mofo! My car sounds broken -- I'm embarrased to drive it, to be quite honest. I asked the guys doing the installation to make sure it doesn't squeak. Well, I noticed that the bar does NOT look like it has the teflon tape on it. I'm going to take it back, but my question is whether teflon tape is provided by Comptech or not? I didn't open the box when I got the stuff (I just had the dealer install it right away), so I don't know if it was included or not. Oh yeah, the bar is gray without the Comptech logo on it ... the DIY instructions on this site show a black CT sway bar with red logo. That's not what I got. I checked the box it shipped in and the part number is correct (140-215). Anyway, I'm not too happy with the installation. I'd rather drive my wife's Cabrio then my car at this point.

Just got off the phone with Comptech. Yep, it's supposed to include the teflon tape. The guy tried to sell me on the Comptech rubber bushings that minimize squeak, but I passed (otherwise, I'd just use the rubber bushings that were originally on the car). Anyway, I'm gonna take the car in tomorrow morning to get it looked at. I just might go to the hardware store and pick up a role of tape just to be sure. I'd rather spring a couple bucks on the tape then delay the whole thing.

Danny,

Any resolution?

BTW, what are you're thoughts on the CT sways?

Well, the good news is that there's no more squeaking. I took it back to the shop that installed it and told 'em that the noise is just unbearable, so they fixed it. The bad news is that I STILL don't know if they used the teflon tape or not. You communicate to a sales guy, and since you're not there to communicate to the mechanic, you don't know what's being communicated at all. I gave them the teflon tape that I bought from a hardware store, but whether they used it or not, I really don't know for sure (the tape looks used but I believe it looked that way when I bought it for a buck). Eye balling the bar, I don't see any tape, but maybe they wrapped it precisely so I can't even tell. Who knows. Anyway, the car is fine right now and it's been about a month. That's much better than when it was first installed. It only took less than a week for the squeaks to be heard the first time around. I'm listening carefully, and I'll take it back the moment I hear even a peep.

Other than teflon tape, lubricating grease will also do the job. As long as the contact surfaces between the poly bushing and the sway bar can move without any gripping, there will be no squeaking.
