Comptech Supercharger!

It's finally out. Just read the article about it in the latest issue of Honda Tuning. The pricing for it is about $4,500. I will probably keep my TL for a little bit and just get the bolt-on supercharger. And from what I read, they said that the Accord that they bolted it onto was "fast." Hehehe, I can just imagine it on a TL-P or TL-S. One cool feature that the Comptech supercharger does is that it doesn't start to pump fuel into the supercharger unless you gun it. Saves gas! :p

From what I've heard over the months that the SC only gives you 50 hp. IMO, ~$5000 for only 50 hp is outrageous.

That's like spending $1000 for the CAI.

50 ? That sucks. Generally, superchargers should increase power by 35-40%.

Yeah but that's 50hp across the entire power band!!!!! Best dyno i've seen with intake headers exahust was 236 @ peak. That's nearly 300hp @ wheels! Forget the HP. Think of the torque!! While the torque curve on a stock CLS/TLS will crap out around 6k. The SC will add 40 ft/lbs or so?? So at 6K you'll have 240ft/lbs of torque!!!! That's mad fast dudes....gotta pay for speed. I didn't see it before but after breaking down the power differences, IMHO, SC is worth it. Especially when you think that with lower PSI tires and sticker tires will push TLS/CLS into the 13's no problem.

Plus you can always buy a bigger pullie that will increase the boost pressure. So you aren' locked into the 8psi OEM setting.

I'll be most impressed if they work out the detonation problems my friend was experiencing with the Comptech S/C on his S2000. I've yet to see a supercharged Honda/Acura that didn't convince me that Honda + S/C =

With all the tranny problems posted on this site, including mine, I'm surprised you think the tranny can handle all that added power and torque. Better beef up the rest of the drive train before you start leaving parts behind!

Wouldn't a smaller pulley be what you would want to increase the boost?

Did he try a higher octane? 93+. Different spark plugs?

While the idea of a s/c in my TL-S gives me goosebumps, it scares me too. I had a 96 SHO before this. There wasn't a rash of tranny failures like we see here and the SHO Shop was leery on puttin' 6psi into that 3.4V8 because of the tranny. That would have been almost 300 hp at the wheels (also about a 50HP boost).

That amount of boost is about right unless your talking an overengineered V8 (a la Cobra or the like) and the price for this s/c is pretty much in line for a s/c package.

I just want some kind of assurance that my transmission won't go kaput on me first time I lay wood...

I'm not sure, but they honestly can't call the kit streetable if you need to run 100 octane (at stock timing) to make power without detonating.

Not sure it is actually out for sale yet. Maybe for the accords but not the TL. Last I heard they were still waiting carb cert. Plus they don't even bother telling anyone how much HP it has yet either.

What in the wide world of sports does this mean? All the supercharger does is push more air into the cylinders thus causing a coordinate increase in fuel to account for the new fuel:air ratio and more power than can be gained by typical induction.

Firstly, since no fuel goes through a supercharger I don't understand this. Secondly, I can't figure out how it would only perform when the car is "gunned".

Hmmmmmmm.

No when i went to Sema this weekend they told me they are going to produce a S/C for the TL at the same time the Accord one comes out. But leave it to comptech to make the price skyrocket cause no one else in the market is producing it.

only 14.2

I just read in this months Sport Compact car that the Comptech S/C on a V6 Accord Coupe at 4.5lbs ran a 14.2 thats with comptech headers and exhaust so thats almost 6500 for all 3 not including installation and tuning a waste of money if you ask me.
