Comptech Ice Box or AEM cold air intake
Can somebody help me with this? I've got a 2002 tl and I want a little more juice out of it. I am thinking about either putting in the Ice Box by Comptech or an AEM cold air intake. Does anyone have any suggestions on which one is better, less maintenance and more effective? I am pretty new at this and I dont have much knowledge when it comes to these things. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Yup yup ... Ice Box is the way to go. It looks and sounds like stock and it gives you same amount of juice as CAI.
I have one in my TLS and love it.
Cheers !!!

I don't have either......but isn't it just your personal preference? from what i hear......the icebox is just quieter...maybe a minimal extra gain than the CAI.......while if you want that roaring sound when you hit vtec then you should get the CAI

Let me add my vote for the Ice Box.
I've had mine in for two weeks now, and the difference is very noticable. It seems to pull stronger and smoother on the low end, and noise levels are still close to stock on the high end. But there is just enough extra growl when the VTEC kicks in to let you know it's there.

Liquid Ice
According to the gains on the CL-S 6spd from Comptech's website, the max gains are around 14hp @ 6000 rpms.
Might be slightly different for the CL-S/TL-S automatic though.

not one person said a cai, and neither will i. the icebox is quiet and has more power. best of all is that comptech is a good company that can back it up. not to mention this intake system was specifically developed for the tls, where aem takes one design and modifies it for different cars.

My 3 and 1/2 cents

the v2 is a bit better than orig. , but once again the design is not specific for tl. comptech spent r&d making the icebox, and they achieved their goal

I'm gonna go against the grain a little and say I personally like my AEM CAI. I like the custom look and sound of the CAI against the quieter, stock-looking Comptech counterpart.
I must admit though, I would like to have all Comptech parts. Is the CT Ice Box paintable like the engine covers? Has anyone done this? Any pics?

I'm a fan of AEM CAI but cleaning the filter is a pain for the TLS. So it look likes I'll be going with the UGLY, PLAIN icebox. I will sure miss the sweet sound of the AEM.

Question
hi i'm pretty new to this site, and i was just wondering if there is any POSSIBLE way...through heavy modifications or anything, to add the ice box and CAI?

AEM CAI..I'm just rather the AEM than the stock looking Icebox...HP difference is not enough for me to pay the extra $100 for the Icebox...Quite frankly, Comptech can keep the Icebox if they are going to sell them for that much...That thing looks like a stock airbox. Just not my preference. That was my .02cents.

To my understanding... in order to install the AEM's CAI, you have to take the bumper off, is that right? What about Comptech's Ice Box?

My dealership put it in without taking the bumper off. Saved me a bunch of money on labor from the original quote.
