Compartment pooping open

Ok this is freaking dangerous... Sometimes, I'll be driving, and that little compartment between the seats will just 'decide' to open up... The latch on it is not very tight, and on hot days it expands and opens...

It has interfered with my driving on more than one occasion, and might someday, cause an accident...

Has anyone else experienced this??

I didn't know compartments can poop...... j/k. Seriouslly though it has happened to me and I have brought up to the dealer, they said they will look into and take care of it on later visits. You are talking about that compartment door extending right?

I'm talking about that compartment between the 2 front seats south of the shifter... The whole thing just opens up randomly, and I don't see it when it happens... My elbow will just bump it, and startle me, sometimes causing me to swerve...

Hey akhnaten,

I don't have any advice for your car problem... but I'd advise you to fix the title of your post! Change "pooping" to "popping" or you may never hear the end of it!

Fix

I drilled a hole on either side of the console, then passed a rope thru and made a butterfly switch off knot. Holds pretty well now. J/K. It is a pretty cheesy latch on this thing. My fix was to attach a magnet latch to the inside. Guess you could look for a better made latch at the junk yard. Juss too much hassle for me.

The center console latch sucks big time. Acura should have used a metal latch instead of that soft plastic doodad.

I don't know if the dealer can fix this problem. Maybe one can adjust the hinge at the rear of the compartment to allow the latch to engage more firmly.

My first gen CL uses a soft plastic doodad to latch the center console and I have never had a problem with it. The design may be faulty, but I don't think the material is the problem!

Pooping compartments???????????? No one else here has been unfortunate enough to experience that problem yet.

Seriously though the dealer should be able to fix that problem which some members here have already experienced.

I got mine fixed, but it took 3 attempts.

#1 - "Adjusted" it, lasted 2 days
#2 - Replaced the latch - lasted 3 days
#3 - Replaced entire console lid and the hinge that holds it - has lasted a month now with no problem.

I suggest you skip attempts 1 and 2.

Yeah, but did they really have to use pooping parts?
