Coming to a stop, do you feel vibrations?

When I come to a moderate to heavy braking stop, I can feel weird vibrations. It's always at the moment precisely before coming to a complete stop. It's pissing me off, and also I'm feeling vibrations in the steering wheel, especially when it's turned. No vibrations when P or N. Always only when it's in gear.

I hate this car.

A common problem for us, sounds like warped rotors. It's a great car, get that looked at and it'll be alright.

Hey Pure I'm sure by now w/ over 700 post you've heard of the rotor problem, so I'm sure it's not it. It might be one of the 4 channel anti-locks hitting something loose in the road. I know I'm always activating one of the channels (usually in the rear) whenever I come to a hard stop and turning into a driveway(shopping center like) I'm sure thats it.
You may have other reasons for disliking this car but an great 4 channel anti-lock system shouldn't be one.

Took my 03 TL in for the 30K mile service and told the service manager about vibrations when I brake and Acura replaced my rotors under warrenty. No complaints there, the vibration was minimal, just thought I would mention it to him.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

However, I know for a fact that it's not the rotors. My rotors are fine, although I have 15780 miles as of today. These are a different kind of vibrations I'm feeling. The best way I can describe it is... as the engine RPM is coming down, the transmission can't keep up and it's about to stall. I feel the vibrations in my butt through the seat bottom. My brother was riding shotgun today and he said he felt it, too.

I know how vibrations caused by warped rotors feel. This is completely different. And as yield has mentioned, with over 700 posts on this forum, I haven't read about this problem yet. I guess I'll take her into the dealership and see what they say. If they blame it on my mods, I'm gonna shove the car up their asses.

I get a pulsing in the steering wheel. Now I think it sounds like the rotors. Does this sound accurate.

I really think it's your anti-lock brakes activating.

I don't know, man.

On dry pavement?

I just re-read my first post in this thread. Sounds confusing as hell to me, too. Let me restate it.

There are TWO problems. One is the vibrations I am feeling through the seat just before coming to a complete stop.

The other problem is vibrations through the steering wheel. But it only happens when I'm completely stopped, and in gear.

I really think it's the transmission. It's not effectively transferring and isolating the power from the engine to the drivetrain. Thus the vibrations throughout the car.

Imagine the torque from the engine going to the transmission, but something's not functioning right. So the transmission vibrates under stress, and those vibrations are transmitted throughout the car. Does that make sense? Do you see where I'm coming from??

remember 4 channel brakes and stiff suspension/body and you can easily get a rear tire to activate, even on dry pavement. It happens to me almost everyday when i pull up to my gate at work off of Sepulveda blvd(busy road). and the tranny thing sounds like a torque converter problem, they're greatly affected by tranny fluid quality, check that first.
peace

It may be tranny, or engine. Watch you RPMs when you stopping, see how far they drop. Also, when you are stopping, try to do it slow, like breaking very slightly, almost letting the car stop by itself. See if it happens. Also, when you hit and release your accelerator, how far RPMs drop? This sort of thing really sounds like an engine problem to me...

For a piece of mind take it into Midas for a free brake inspection. If everything is ok, look elsewhere. I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be my rotors.

Thanks, guys.

Strannik --

When I come to a stop slowly, it doesn't happen. Like I said, it only happens in moderate to heavy braking to a stop.

When I tap the gas pedal and release, the RPM goes down to idle speed, around 700-800 RPM.

When I come a stop abruptly (moderate to heavy braking) then the RPM goes down to about 500, then comes back up. But this problem had been present since day one of getting the car. But the vibrations just recently started.

I guess I'll take it to Midas or the dealership and see what they say. I really do hope that I'm wrong and it's the rotors. But I honestly believe that it's not. I've had warped rotors before (although not in this car) and this certain feels different than that.

I get these too. I read somewhere here that it was because the torque converter does not unlock fast enough sometimes during heavy braking so your car begins to stall a little.

Yes, I'm having that problem, too, Peter. It's annoying.

And I agree. This car sucks and I hate it. I'm almost getting to a point where I want to just get rid of it and get into a different car. Despite the mods and the fun of driving it, it can't justify the problems.

I'm going back to stock this week, so I'll let you know if the vibration goes away w/ the stock headers. Comptech said that sometimes the flex joint can malfunction in first generation headers and can cause the engine vibration you and I describe. We'll know for sure after Friday. PM me if I forget to update you.

Good ****. Thanks a lot. I'm going to tell the techs at Acura of Troy to look into the motor mounts.
