coming back from iraq, storage questions
i'm coming back from iraq in about 2 months, (yes i'm still here) and i have questions on what i should do. I left my car garaged, one window cracked, full fuel tank (with stabilizer) and silicone on door seals and battery disconnected.
What do I need to do to pull it out? Some people said that I should replace fuel filter, oil, oil filter. But is there anything else? Will the tires be ok, I didn't jack em, it has been only 5 months though. ALso this may sound stupid but as i was thinking about it, i forgot which terminal on the battery was negative and postive. I know the cables are marked, (one has a rubber red cover to denote positive) but how about on the battery itself? Anyhow thanx for the help...

I'm a bit surprised no one has offered a reply yet--what ever happened to "Support our Troops" guys?
Soap box aside, the battery issue is obvious, it's labled on the battery and the cables, and also the cables are short where the battery will only go in one way where the cables will be able to reach.
5 months isn't too bad, you might just go and see if the car fires up on the first try--the only special thing you might want to do is cycle the key on and off (not starting the car) to get the fuel system fully pressurized. The flat spot tire problem has pretty much gone away since the days of Bias ply tires.
take it for a good drive, warm it up, get the oil changed--then run out that tank of gas asap, and fill up again. if you get any hesitation problems, then replace the fuel filter, and run a bottle of fuel injection cleaner. Good luck, and I wish you a safe return! Good job you guys did over there.

From: Miami - just one day, I would like to drive without getting cut off!
I just got back myself 1 month ago after 6 months out and I had no problem with my car. The storage place was supposed to disconnect my battery leads but they didn't. But the car fired right up! I let the engine run for about 30 minutes before I drove, and just took it easy til' it had re-lubed itself. I was worried about the gas 'jelling' but that wasn't an issue either. Good luck.
