Cold start grinding noise

Been a while since ive been on the boards. I have a bit of a problem, my cl has not been driven as much as it should be lately. One a couple occasions after the car has been sitting for a while, when i start up the car in the cold, it will have this horrible grinding noise. Regardless of if im in gear, out of gear, D, or R it will make this grinding sound. It increases with the speed of the engine. I originally thought it could be motor mounts, but the sound disappears when the car gets warm. The last two times it happened I let it warm up, shut off the car, and the sound went away. Any thoughts?

Could be an accessory belt or tensioner.

I'll take a look, is there anything in particular to look for?

You can look for belt misalignment or wear. If you spray belt dressing or wd-40 on it and the sound changes, then you know you have a belt problem.
But see if the noise is coming from that area. It may be the belt tensioner which presses against the belt. It may be your power steering pump making the noise. There are several places which the noise can come from....timing belt, pulleys, tensioner failing, water pump.....

Gives me a reason to go get a mechanics scope! Ill listen around and see if I can find out where the noise is coming from.

Sounds like normal power steering growl on start up.
