Coin Tray
Coin Tray
How do I remove the coin tray in a 03 TLS? I have a little too much change in it and a dime got lodged in the back of the coin tray, making it hard to open. I just need to know how to take it out cuz I don't wanna break anything. Thanks guys!

I recently had work done on my 2002 and they messed up the coin/ash tray in reassebling the dash. To fix it he had to tear apart the dash again. Not a good thing. To make matters worse that springy toungue thing came out again. Arghhhh.
Is there a DYI about tearing apart the center console and removing the coin tray? I know, I definately need to invest in a Helms. Thanks again guys!
EDIT: I meant DIY...damn acronymns!

there's your DIY for removing the center console
Thanks! So on that site, does the coin tray come out along with the center console? Or which step do I stop at on that site? I'm not trying to remove the deck or anything. Thanks again tpatel.

to get the coin tray section out you need to get until step 19. its all pretty easy except removing the seat heaters. Thats a HUGEEEEEEe pain in the ass cus the thing is like 4 inches long and you have 4.1 inches to work it. its real tight. try jiggling the coin tray around a little. this happened to me and after i played with it, it came down enough to push down the silver metal clip inside and remove the tray.
it's really not that bad. i can take the whole console apart in about 10-15 minutes now. but i've also done it a few times to install my radio. just use a little flathead eyeglasses screwdriver to get the seat heater controls out. i never had a problem. just switch it to the "lo" position and you will have an opening to stick the screwdriver in.
do not remove the cupholer. those 4 screws hold nothing else in but the cupholder.
just the two inside the console storage, about 6-8 holding the console onto the trim, one behind the drivers kick panel for the trim, one on the passenger side for the trim, two by the EEC diagnostic port (HINT: use a telescoping magnet from autozone to hold onto the screw while you turn it, or use a magnetic screwdriver, both are cheap and will make life easy!)
once you remove the heater controls and the ring around the shifter it's pretty easy. i wrote a more detailed post on this once. try searching for it under my name and maybe you'll find it.
