Clunking noise coming from the back

There seems to to be a clunking noise that occurs every 2-5 minutes from the back of my car at random. I originally though it was the loose tools in my trunk making the noises but I took them out and it still makes the noise. I have a feeling it may be my exhaust because I scraped it going down a steep drop making the sound occur more often(the noise was there when I bought the car). Maybe my rear suspension? Loose bolts? What are some of the things I should check. THanks!

Shocks could be blown or your spare tire is probably not tightened.
Push down the car and see if there is any resistance.
Check if your spare tire screw is not tightened.

sway bar end links bad
broken exhaust support mount

Put it on ramps or stop by a muffler shop for an inspection

blown shocks would make noise on every bump- is there any oil leaking from the shocks?
thats the usual sign its got a bad seal
To test shocks- go to one corner and bounce the car several times then step back- car should stop on one movement of shock travel-

Had similar noise w/ another car that was caused by worn sway bar bushings.

sway bar endlinks or shocks are the most likely things

Alright thanks guys, I will check out everything you guys said and report back in a few days.

"blown shocks would make noise on every bump- is there any oil leaking from the shocks?

There is no noise on every bump, the noise seems to occur randomly when the car is moving, I cannot reproduce the sound at will. I am on K-sport coilovers, I tried bouncing the car and it is very difficult even using my weight(250lbs), but it seems that it is bouncing one time after I bounce it. No oil is leaking from the shocks from a quick visual inspection, nothing on my garage floor either.

I will try replacing the sway bar endlinks since it seems like a cheap part, does anyone know what tools/socket sizes I will need to replace it? thanks again for your help guys, I appreciate it a lot.
