Climate Control on TLS

Hi
I have a TLS 03 with Navi and I have found the climate control system very unresponsive. For example I have it normally at 70 but some time I want to cool down. I turn it down to as low as 61 and I dont feel any cooling happening. If I now turn it 60 all of a sudden the fan goes high, the air circulation automatically goes from internal circulation.
It seems like a strange climate control system. From 70 to 61 no noticable change. Then just step down by 1 degree to 60 and everthing springs into action.
Has anybody else noticed this on their car ?

Id say there is something wrong with your HVAC or something... the HVAC, if you turn the dial to 60 or 90 will automatically bring the fans to full and set it to reticulate. If your not noticing a difference within a few minutes in the ambient temp of the car, especially from 70 to 61, there’s a problem...

the system may not seem to respond at first but have you just tried making the adjustment and seeing if it works?

my 2003 Accord (with auto, dual zone), my previous Passat and A4 all work similarly to what you described - depending on the ambient conditions (sunny, overcast, outside temp). in all three cars, if you adjust +/- 5 degrees, the change is gradual. it seems as if the temp will adjust but the free flowing air will help to gradually change your interior temp. adjust more than +/- 6 degrees and then it calls for a more agressive change.

(in auto mode) when you turn the temp way down, do the dash vents kick in automatically? when you raise the temp, do the floor vents kick in? on start up in the winter, does the fan stay off for a few minutes and then gradually ramp up to dump warm air on the floor vents? if all this happens, chances are the logic is OK. the dealer is gonna say "within normal specs". my money is that it's working fine.

if it is a sensor / computer probelm, let us know!

I normally keep my climate control on at 70 degrees (with the A/C off), and then sometimes when it gets too warm change the climate control down to around 67 or 68 degrees. After waiting about 5 minutes it is noticeably cooler in the car. I agree that you should wait a little bit after lowering the temperature to feel the difference.

The best way to use the climate control is to leave it in FULL AUTO mode .This is the most effecient way to use this thing.Commanding it to remain in recirc or ac off is simply limiting the way it works. In certain situations the system may seem to be malfunctioning. For instance it is bright and sunny but cold .So you get in the car probably cold yourself yet the system is set to 70 and it seems not to be putting any heat into the cabin. This is a common complaint but what you must understand is that you are asking for one thing but telling the car something else.If you tell the car that you want 70 degrees on a winter day where it is bright and sunny it will do that. The problem arises in that the car interior is probably already close to 70 so the system is just barely adding any heat. The car is warm because the sun has warmed it up.But you are still freezing because what you really want is more like 80 or 90.So tell the car for a while to hit the heat then turn it back down once you are warmed up.Remember it is essentially just a dumb machine and it will do exactly what you tell it to do but it will not read your mind.Jens
