Clear diffusers for our Headlamps

Mods, I don't know if I'm allowed to post this. I just want to give us TL owners a new mod to put in our TL's.

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you would be interested in "clear diffusers"?

Basically, a carbon copy of the Amber pieces that we have in our headlights. I was never really a fan of the all clear empty look. and always kept searching for a way to put some sort of opaque reflector into it with no such luck.

Recently, I was on the S2K forums, and found one owner that made a copy of the stock S2000 amber pieces. So I thought I e-mail him and see what he can do for us.

I talked to him for a bit, and he's willing to make the reflectors for us. That is...if we can get a handful of owners interested in a pair. That would mean two different versions for 99-01 and 02-03.

So anyway.....I would like to know if anyone would be interested in this mod and make our cars more unique!

Pricing and such will be released once I get a list of people. FYI, the S2K owners are paying $95 for a pair. So look around that range for pricing.

For those that prefer the all clear look, please don't reply saying such and such.

Here is a picture of the Amber S2K piece next to the new clear version.

As you can tell, it's a complete copy, down to the very last detail.

They are also making a smoked version for the S2K's...but I don't think it'll look good on our cars, since our headlight housing are chrome, and theirs are black.

Cool! The price will probably range from $90-$100, since the S2K owners are paying $95 for a pair right now.

I'd be interested but not for $95. I'd rather deal with the reflectorless look for that price. Keep in mind the S2000 reflector is much bigger than our little strip so he should charge less. If that's the case count me in.

So in order to do this, we have to open the headlights and put these pieces in? I'm not sure if that's correct, but I would be interested if someone has an actual pic with the lens in their TL.

I agree...I noticed the S2K diffusers has much in detail compared to ours. So hopefully it's not too hard to make compared to the S2K ones, and we get a price break!

But only time will tell. I'm waiting for a reply, I sent him detailed pics of the amber pieces.

I'll let you know on the pricing once I get info, then you let me know if you are more interested or not.

Yes, that is correct. I would love to provide pictures of such clear diffusers in a TL. But it doesn't exist. Thus the reason why I want to make it real. I would love to be the first to do it, and eat the cost of making the mold. But it's just too expensive to make one pair.

Just pretend the amber piece in our corners are these nice clear opaque versions.

Yes, they will be clear reflectors. Like I said in my first post. It will be a carbon copy of the amber ones in the TL.

Hi,
I'm interested as well, but I think the price should be a little lower. Install should be pretty easy right?
I have a 99TL.

I do have a CL and I think peiqinglong posted a thread over on A-CL that refers here, but I can’t find it now. I might want a smoked set, but lets see what kind of interest there is first

TL_LiFE, Installation should be same way you clear our headlights. You have to take apart the housing in order to put this piece in. Let me know if you're still interested.

nate'sCLS, I found the thread. I posted in there. Hopefully we get strong numbers from CL'ers.

JPTLS21, Don't be scared. Everyone does it.

I'm considering doing the clear headlight core exchange program. But I must first make sure I can clear a headlight w/o fogging. So it won't be anytime soon. Time will only tell.

ElegantTL-S, any new information on these. Also, I decided to change my interest from "smoked" diffusers to clear/opaque ones.

BTW: The interest is starting to pick up on the A-CL thread, check it out.

nate, i read the thread over there. it sure is picking up!

But, so far no word yet. The interest is getting there on all boards. I'm just patiently waiting for his e-mail reply. Since thanksgiving just past, He might be on vacation.

Just wait guys.

Alright! I got a e-mail back. Time to get the ball rolling!!

Here is some information to clear other things up.

Hi everybody. My name is Rick Hesel and my company, Rick's Signature Accessories (www.ricks2k.com), which makes an produces custom accessories for the S2000, will be producing the diffusers.

Since we have not had a chance to see the stock diffuser yet, it's impossible to set a final price, the cost of material is a rather minor variable here, since most of the costs are labor. It might end up being less than $90 but there is simply no way it will come down to $60.

These are made from a hand-made rubber mold and each mold lasts for a max of only 30 sets. Each set is hand-made and takes at least a three hours to produce. So it just isn't "a cheap piece of plastic," and those kind of reponses indicate no understanding of the what it takes to produce these kinds of things in the quantitites of 20 or 30 that are likely to be sold.

I we had demand for 1,000 pieces, we could lower the price substantially, but that is very unlikely to be the case.

So the economics are very plain and a price of around $90 is what is required to cover the costs and provide a modest margin.

A discussion raged for nearly 2 years on the S2000 forum about clear diffusers, since the only alternative was to buy a set of JDM of EDM headlamp assemblies for over $900. People searched high and low for companies that could make clear diffusers, and those that could wanted $250 - $300 a pair.

Until our diffusers came along there was no solution even approaching something as low as $100.

If anybody can find someone who'll make these for less at this low volume, great. Get them made and sell them Until then, we'll be making these for the people who recognize the value.

For those that are interested, Please e-mail me so I can know who's in. Instead of constantly checking back. This way, I can keep everyone up to date through e-mail. clears@acuradriver.com

I will also have to talk to Rick about the smoked versions. But he just went to the airport, so he'll be out of town for a while.

You know what. I still dont' have a pair of reflectors for the CL yet. I do have the '02 TL..and I'm getting the 00 soon.

I've been caught up in things, that I couldn't send out the amber pieces yet. And I just got sick. So I probably can't send it out will Jan.

But i'll let you guys know as soon as the prototype piece is made.

NighthawkBlack, That is not possible. As the headlights are assembled at Honda, and we can't go to Honda and ask that they put these in there. If you can re-seal the headlights good, it shouldn't leak.

this is me, yes, it will fit '03.

I'll let you guys know! The medicine is making me really drowsey now.
