NO! You can pretty much use any cleaner (wheel cleaner works well), but the oil should be a hi-tack oil designed for foam filters.
It has to stick and also saturate to ensure it does not load up with water. I would stick with Uni-filter oil to be sure - this is not something to scrimp on unless Comptech says it is ok.

I've never cleaned a filter in my life. As a matter a fact, the last time I saw my filter, only 1 side of it was dirty, so I just rotated it 180 degrees. As for cleaning it, I'm not too confident of what a decent job would be, so I might just go out and buy me another replacement filter.

systek: No means no. I said no to the K&N oil unless Comptech or Unifilter says YES. Where do you get it? From Comptech or Unifilter!
You can clean the filter with Simple Green.

Try this Systek..
Goto a motorcycle shop (like Yamaha, Honda, etc.) and ask them for the cleaner and oil for an aftermarket foam (Uni) filter. Basically Uni makes the aftermarket air filter for motorcycle/dirt bike usage.
If you need further assistance drop me a PM, or e-mail. The Uni filter cleaning stuff is suprisingly cheaper, and more quantity than the K&N cleaning supplies.
