To be at fault for your own friends death, to lose your car, and to be charged with a felony like that all at the same time! Man, that's tough. Can't imagine what that dude must be going through right now.

Well, when I first read the post I felt sorry for the guy. But when I went to the link of the actual news article I felt only sorry for his dead friend. I have driven 100 in a 45 zone but only by myself and when no other cars are around. I would never put anyones life in my hands and I never drive without everyone wearing a seatbelt, if someone does'nt want to wear one then they can walk. People feel sorry for the guy being charged but he will not have to die like his friend so I do not know how to feel sorry for him. It is tragic and unfortunate for all that were involved and I see many people on that post would not like comments like mine but its reallity, he made a dumb mistake and deserves punishment. I would expect the same if it happened to me except I drive careful when I have passengers so I would not get charged with killing someone.

My sincere feelings are for the victims family.

I wrote this on the thread very early on. You now see that I edited it because I got flamed to hell and back on that board. I'm glad other people feel the way I do.

silver-s - going 100 in a 45 zone not only puts yourself at risk, but others as well. Just because there's nobody in the car with you, doesnt mean there isnt anyone on that street, or another driver approaching from an area that isnt the immediate focus of your attention. Yes, theres a reason why its a 45 zone.

As I feel sorry for the driver and victim of this CL-S accident, I will also feel sorry for you when you carelessly injure yourself or someone else as a result of your reckless high-speed highjinks.

anytime you turn the ignition on your car, shift into drive, and roll out onto a public road, you are (whether you want to or not) putting people's lives in your hands.

I did say when no cars are around on wide open roads. If I see cars I slow down. I have only done this a few times. I regularly drive at the speed limit or 5 over. I understand that I could pull out my driveway and hit someone but thats something everyone has to be carefull of doing. The person who caused that accident intentionally went that fast with a passenger. As for feeling sorry for me if I get in an accident for speeding I wish you would not. When I have gone faster than the speed limit which would be intentional then I am not putting safety first. Like I said only on open roads, no side streets and a good view from ahead. If I wreck it then its my fault and there should be no sympathy for me. I would hate myself for killing someone else even in another car so I am very carefull and alert around other cars and pedestrians.

I know speeding is wrong I hope any of you do not think this is a habbit of mine, I was just saying that I've done it. You have read many people talk about racing and top speeds and all on this board so I am not the only one. You know whats worse is when I see so many cars on the freeway going like 75 and there only 1 to 2 cars lengths behind each other, its no wonder when theres a car accident that several cars get smashed up. Even at normal speeds many people like to drive so close to the car in front, those people do not realize how much room is needed to stop.

Bioyuki,

I did see you edited your post. I am not a member there but even if I was I would not post what I said. I felt it was OK here because he probably would not read it. My comment would have pissed some off and I guess they will here also but thats OK because I am being honest. If I slammed him on his board it would have been meaningless, basically would not have changed what happened. Well enough said I guess.

I always assume responsibility whenever I carry passengers, and that's why all passengers in my car must wear his/her seat belt or else walk.

Although I think that the blame squarely rests on the CL driver, I also think that he deserves our sympathy. It's a very difficult lesson to learn, and he may spend many years in prison for it. The last thing he needs is an "I told you so", no matter how well deserved.

As for his friend: I assume that he wasn't a fool and knew what seat belts are for. He decided not to wear it and paid the ultimate price.

Such a sad story . Please be careful out there!

I do not know the whole story, but from the sounds of it, there was a needless death. I am not sure how many of you have lost a loved one in a car accident, either as a victim, or the cause. It hurts. It's a very hard time. Who should his family be mad at? His friend for driving fast? The victim because he was not wearing a seat belt? Like it was said earlier in this post, as soon as you put your car in drive, you are putting people's lives at risk. All we can do is reduce the risks. EVERYONE on here has driven over the posted speed limit, or even driven the speed limit when the road conditions were bad, which is illegal. Ever talked on your cell phone, took your eyes off the road to change the radio channel, checked out a cute girl? Before we start putting others down and being sarcastic, people need to look at themselves. Yesterday I had my niece in my car, and she put her seatbelt on but put the shoulder strap behind her because her "Mom lets me do it". Not in my car; I made her wear it right. She's big enough for it. Even if I wasn't the cause of the accident, if something were to of happened and she got hurt because I let her wear the seatbelt wrong in my car, I COULD NOT HAVE LIVED WITH MYSELF. On another note, we all know a few roads that do not have many other cars, no corss streets, and you can see for a couple miles. We have all opened up our cars to see what they can do, or even show off. Learn something from this tragedy, and don't accuse others without honestly looking at yourself.
My prayers are with the victims family, and the drivers family.

You guys are right the driver does not need to hear the "I told you so" line and thats why I commented here and not on the CL board. I read on the CL board I guess the drivers name and address was in the article. I do think that is wrong the news paper should not be listing peoples names and addresses. the justice system will be bad enough he does not need angry strangers bothering him also. So I guess I feel for him in that way as well as the drivers family and friends who may have to see him go to jail.

Drive safe
