If it's a 92-95 Civic HB w/ a Type-R motor swap, don't even waste your gas. In fact, even if it's a coupe or sedan. Power to weight ratio is a big factor...

I raced a civic hatchback with a GSR and another one with a Type R swap. I beat the GSR but got walked on by the Type R. 3rd Gear vtec on those just pull!! Like DOLEFEE said, dont waste your gas. By the way, I have a 03 Type S with bolt-ons.

haha, civic type r will own u in all aspects of a car. i'll take my civic out anyday over the tl. its FASTER, turns more heads, looks nicer, and if it wasn't for the fact i couldn't drive it in snow, it would be an all around better car.

He ask if it would win in a race. I dont think a race means if it looks nice or not. Some people like their car to be fast and some like them for show Seems like you are those people that likes them for show. On top of that how you know that this civic is ghetto just because its a civic? C'mon man if he can afford to do an engine swap<--- no cheap. i am pretty sure that he can hook up his car to look nice unless he wants it to be a sleeper. Pretty much you are saying all RICE ROCKETS, civics, accords, integras, etc are ghetto even though some of them can kick you ass? I dont see the reasoning

some civics are very well done, with taste and quality parts.

but people, you have to admit that at least 90% of all the civics are crap.

talking about civics, a type-R swap is nice, but a S2K swap is way better!, a 240hp, RWD, 6sp civic!!! id drive it!!

there was one at a show around here and man it was hot!!

oh btw, lilirish: i thought the type-R has 195hp? are you talking about the US engine or JDM maybe?

a civic with a type r swap would spank on a TL-S anyday. even if it had a straight swap with nothign else done. and nick you couldnt swap a type r motor into a automatic car. it has to be a sticc.

Sounds like you need the headers and the supercharger and then you can prolly put up a decent fight if he's running mid-13s... Got $6000 you can drop?

not for anything, i am all for "to each their own", but i don't think in any way shape or form a civic has all the comfort and class a tl has. now i am sure there are some exceptional civics out there (around my area 99.9% of them are all the same with a cheap body kit and tunabi muffler) but i have yet to see a civic get the same amount of looks from people standing on a sidewalk that my tl gets when i drive by. although i'm sure if i was offered a 500hp car i would most likely take it also.....::drools::.....

::shrugs:: i might be talking out of my a-hole but this is the way i look at it: there are tons of civics running around out there where i live, but i have only seen ONE (yes, one) other satin silver tl with a body kit around here. and i travel extensively throughout the state. just my opinion.

SSTS

ps - regarding racing that civic though, i would warn against it as well. but i will tell you my friend spanked one once real bad in his 450hp nissan 300zx TT

Ok, so are we saying that a civic type-r can take our type-s? Just need to know because aren't the engines in the type-r and the rsx type-s the same? I was just wondering because I got took by a little modded bastard in a rsx type-s.... he had these badges everywhere on his car (I think he thinks that evry badge adds like 10 horses).

He was quick, but I think I took more risks than him, primarily just to catch up to him on the highway after he screwed me from the launch.... Damn it.... I almost got screwed by a little b!+ch in a corolla s, also modded out.... but I took care of his little bitch ass, I think his mods were all show and no go... I was surprised to have my ass handed to me by a rsx, though....

I don't care, we ain't ashy, we classy....I am with OU Sig and Satin, we got Tl's, yo.... why buy a car for 15g's and put 5-7g's of mods on it when you can take all that money and buy a really nice car???? Damn ricers (even though I used to be one)

let me tell you,... my mechanic had a 92 hb civic w/ a typeR motor, tranny .... WOW funnest drive I ever had. The car pulled insanly. Merging onto highways... you get pushed back into the seat. Think of it like the way the 04 6sp TL pulls... that plus a can of whoop ass in a sardin can

.... and I thought this was a TL site.....???

Hmm... But yes, the Civic with GSR/SI/Type-R swap will out run many cars out there!

My civic runs a 12 second 1/4 easy...

Type-R parts provide good low-end torque without sacrificing too much high-end power as well. Until you have ran against a boosted/engine swapped civic..don't hate on them. TRUST ME...

i think i may have missed something along the way. are you talking about civics with SI motor swaps too or swaps to just the type-R motor? because the SI motor is fairly weak in stock form. i used to spank on prelude SI's when i had a 3.1L chevy corsica all the time. ....well, lemme take that back somewhat, i wouldn't smoke them or anything but i would usually take them by a car length or two.

and true, with a little money and work civics can hang with vipers and then some, but i think the consensus is not that they don't have enormous potential, just that everyone and his brother has a modded civic. it's getting to be old-hack.

we'll just have to wait until Type S Lady gets her blower, then we'll see what a TLS can do

It's interesting because even with a blown TLS(which will still me an auto and weigh 1/2 a ton) I would still not get to arrogant against a Civic. The swaps nowadays with FI and internal upgrades can push 300hp anyday. Especialy with them being so light and in manual. It's freakin ridiculous how much potential they have if your willing to pour that much $ into one. That's why I prefer the sleeper TLS, if I want to pick a race it'll be on my terms. I'm sure I'll be trying a few of them but I ain't talking no trash till the race is over.

good policy. i prefer sleepers myself and try not to pick on cars that i know will trash me, like trans am's with the LS1 or the mustang cobras :toothless .

true on the weight disadvantage, but i have to believe the blower will definitely make the TLS come alive. that's awesome your dealership won't void on the tranny warranty. i'm almost afraid to ask mine about things as simple as UD pulleys.

I still don't have it in writing that my dealer will not void my warranty. I think I can make a big enough stink if I need to though. But my plan B if and when my tranny goes is to have Velocity Resources do the Kevlar tranny upgrade on mine. It wouldn't be worth replacing with a stock one when I can save time and money to get a stronger one. It won't be cheap but this car is a keeper for many years to come so I'm putting my money on a stronger tranny.

just out of curiosity, what are they Kevlar'ing? i've heard of Kevlar clutches, but i was unaware such things could be applied to auto-trannies. you may want to look into investing in cryo-treatment if you get a new tranny. it's actually quite affordable these days. and i second the car being a keeper for many years to come. it's gonna have to be in order to pay off the loan :p

Not exactly sure as to the details of the VR tranny upgrade but it's suppose to be a monster. When I get my SC installed down in Orlando I plan on getting more info on it. It's been about a year since I talked about it with them but if you call I'm sure they could tell you more abou it.

With 40 or so more payments, mine is a keeper atleast for 3.5 more years.

Type R no mods, I'd race him. But considering he's got the manual launching would be very important.
