cigarette lighter holder attach ?

The cigaretty lighter in the dashboard next to the coin box in my 2003TL works but is somewhat loose - it wanders in and out and doesn't stay stable in the dashboard hole. How does that power receptacle attach to the hole, and how can I make it stable? Would this be an easy fix?

TIA

Mine was doing the same thing. Never got around to fixing it prior to trading it in.
I imagine you can remove the side panes & it probably has a threaded nut that holds it on, that has likely backed out over time.

But, looking at the parts diagram, I don't see what I'm describing:

Not sure if #3 is threaded onto #2.

Did this a few weeks ago. Remove 2 screws in bottom of center console compartment. This allows you to move the console a bit so it's easier to remove right side trim (#13) & right panel (#12). Then you can reach the threaded collar (#3) that holds it.
Just be careful, take your time, & use plastic or nylon pry tool so you don't scratch anything.

I should/will give it a try. Thanks, folks. At least I will open up the panels and take a look in there.

00TL-P3.2 - yes it does seem a little unclear.
totaledTL - So the collar is threaded? The collar turns and tightens against the holder itself?

Thanks.

Got this thing done with today. Basically what totaledTL said - the collar is threaded and attaches to the lighter thing.

Additionally, I also found $13.01 ;-) in slightly sticky and corroded coins under there and under the carpet. There's a few more coins left over but aren't accessible. I don't remember losing quite so many coins down there, possibly the previous owner did...
