Post Chrome shift gate easy solution!

Well,

After I found out we could do this, I was all about it... But after using all the stuff people on here said to use, I still couldn’t get that paint off. Remover, thinner, didnt matter, it wouldent budge.

Tonight I went to home depot, and picked up a can of this stuff called "Graffiti Remover". White can, tall. Its a spray, it foams up and hardens.

The directions said to let it sit for 30 minutes. I spray the stuff on, and I let it sit only 45 SECONDS!!!

I ran my finger down the shift gate and the paint just came off like it was nothing. The stuff cost about $4 It took it off everything, even the little cracks and inner parts that normally would be a ***** to do. Just washed it off with the hose and dried it.

Spray, 45 seconds, wash, dry. Thats it. I couldent believe it.

So there ya go, a 45 second solution! Now me have pretty shift gate

How do you guys like it when you are in the car and it is a warm summer day and you have the sun roof open and the sun reflects off the gate. Does it get in your eyes? Does it get in your passenger's eyes? Is it annoying.

This is an irreversible mod so I am debating whether or not I want to do it.

99TL exclusive, sorry s0ph3aktra. Also if you're doing this........dip the shifter plate in warm/hot water after you dipped it in thinner/remover. The water helps to loosen the paint up and makes for an easier time.

silver??? you refering to the dull aluminum look? Take a look at these and see which one you got.

Matt, In '98, when they released the new TL, they had originally planned to make the shift gate chrome. At the last minute, they decided because of glare, to make them silver/aluminum. Since they already had the manufactured chrome plates, they had them repainted silver. Thus, in the '99 TL ONLY, simply remove the silver paint like i said above and you have a chrome shift gate. good stuff.

I used run-of-the-mill Acetone (cuz I had it laying around) and it worked amazingly!! completely changed the look and is dead-sexier than ever!

Not to mention the opportunity it presented to clean all the gook, crud, junk, and etc from around the trim ring and on the PRND21+- indicator

God I love this site!!
