Yep, kinda cheapo. I doubt they'll do anything for us, though - possibly wrap it in padded vinyl would be nice...

TL does have cheap platic parts.

On top of the item mentioned here. My console was broken. It was replaced by the dealer for free. But the console was rarly used. Kind of suprised that the console would break apart in less than 1 year.

Yep, I have this same problem. Let us know what they say! Hopefully they will replace it or something, then we can all use that as leverage with our dealers.

Of course, these dings are caused by the buckle as it retracts. My procedure now is to press the unlock button with my right hand, hold the buckle in my left, and then bring the buckle to the top of the pillar as it retracts. If you just let the buckle fly back when you unlock, it'll cause the dings. It sounds like a lot of work, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

TL Premium I believe. Fancy words meaning "The TL for the people who couldn't afford the Navi OR the Type S".

Angry cheap plastic component in TL

I just notice the interior plastic trim where the driver's seat belt comes out from has a number of dings in it from seatbelt buckle. I am going back to the dealership about this. Anyone else have the same problem (I have the ebony interior)??

Yeah, I noticed it too when I was cleaning my car yesterday. Keep me updated on what the dealer has to say.

I just came back from the service department and the service department smuck try to tell me that my TL was the only one that he has seen with this problem with dents on the plastic seat belt/pillar cover. Yeah right. I told him about the responses I got on this forum from all you guys and you should have seen the look on his face. Then he paused for a moment and uttered that I should take it up with Acura Canada.

I got a feeling Acura knows all about the problem with the cheap dent prone plastic material but are not doing anything about it. I saw a 2002 TL in the showroom and no changes have been made to that component. Very dissapointing. Acura is going down hill. Seems they don't care about perfection anymore. Honda really should put an engineer to run the Acura division like in the old days.

I've seen Lexus and they use a soft vinyl material over the plastic to avoid the dents. This is what Honda used to do in the good old days too.

I doubt Lexus would have made such a mistake. I have found inferior parts in two different Acuras the TL and the MDX, It sucks when your brand new car start comin apart due to poor craftsmanship and cheap materials.

Lexus definately is a step above Acura. It is attention to detail that set it above Acura. Now I know why Acura is cheaper than ES300.

I am going to write a letter to Acura about this. Maybe I'll print off some of your replies and attach them.

Who else is experiencing this same problem? Please post a reply.
