Because an above-average number of Acura & Honda transmissions have been bad, certain TL's made between '99 and '02 have been given an extended POWER TRAIN warranty. It's been extended to 100,000 miles/7 years. Posts elsewhere on this thread explain exactly which years are covered.

I do mine at 3K, then at 30K, 60k, 90K for ever car that I have ever owned.
I figure it only cost about $29.00 to drain and fill. I would lose that much by having to take an hour or two off from work by drving to the dealer if my tranny ever 'hiccuped"
Better safe than sorry.

What kind of fluid are you using to change it with? The manual states only use Honda fluid, but my used dextron in an emergency, but then you must change it quickly. Why can we not just use dextron all the time. I'd like to use synthetic if I could.
Does any one know the reality of this? or is it just a Honda ploy to make us buy their fluids?

Other then engine oil, I only use Honda fluids for everything else.
Some of the seals and gaskets (For instance the power steering pump) will deteriorate and leak over time if you use anything else but Honda power steering fluid.

Like I said...it is approximately $30 at the dealer (Flush and Fill only). Just let them do it when you have your next Oil Change.

no no no no, theres 2 tranny services you can get at the dealer.... one is the $50 one, which it takes 5 quarts of tranny fluid and its a fluid "change", the other is the $150 service, which takes over 20 quarts, thats the "flush". ask you dealer about it...
I wanna do the flush, and i aint gunna pay the delaer $150 to do it... even though most of that is the fluid cost....

If you change your tranny fluid every 15K, there is no reason why you would need to "flush" it.
Putting it another way, we all change our engine oil every 3-5K. Ever hear of anyone ever having to flush their engine out ???

In spirit, I agree with you. However DO NOT use Dexron ATF. HONDA ATF is a 'highly friction-modified' ATF which has a different 'coefficient of friction'. Even pricey Amsoil ATF is not suitable for Honda or Acura vehicles. Do yourself a favor -
spend the extra few $$$ (you could maybe save a $ by getting it at a Honda dealer). As far as a tranny flush, since I've read about all the tranny probs, I did a flush at 30,000 miles. It's easy. The instructions are in your owners manual. It's drain, fill and drive X 3, then a final drain and fill. The drain plug is located about 18" inside of the front driver's side wheel. A 'naked' 3/8 " ratchet wrench is all you need.

Hey andy...you've never heard of an engine oil flush/engine flush? There is such a thing. Don't bag on people if you don't know. I had it done on my old car when it hit 60K and the engine felt so much smoother!!
