Changing shift knob

Is it hard to change the shift knob of a 02 TL-S model? What exactly should i know when looking for a another shift knob?. I was thinking of getting Momo Combat shift knob. How do you take off the shift knob from our cars?

Twist? unscrew?

thanks.

the ones that have the pretty blue flame... you can point those where you really need it, i doubt you'd want to burn your leather...
just to expand the metal just enough for you to take out the nob without much effort.

You can get it from the dealer, just ask for a shifter gate for a '99. While you're out, stop by a hardware store and pick up a can of graffiti remover to remove the grey paint from the shift gate and reveal the glorious chrome finish beneath.

I'm not sure but if you have one of the models that is actually a 5 Speed then the 99 shift plate won't fit in your car, so make sure you dont have a D5 spot on your current shifter. I believe the 99-01 were 4 speed and the 02 and 03 were 5 speed. Correct me if Im wrong someone.

It will fit, just that you won't have the 1-2 shift capability at the bottom.

Is there a DIY for installing the shfit plate? I bought one over the weekend and it's attached to a large plastic fitting. Is it possible to detach the plate first before removing the paint or do I have to install the whole thing? I tried releasing the tabs with a screwdriver, but I stopped because I didn't want to break anything that I may actually need . . .
