changing head light bulb
changing head light bulb
ok, my headlamp bulbs have not gone out yet, but i'm sure they will go out in the future some time and I would need to replace them.....so I want to know what bulbs to replace them with when that time comes.
is it a special bulb that we have to get from acura or can we go to schucks ( i use shucks for my tail light bulbs) or an aftermarket speedshop and get one of those hyperwhite xenon bulbs?
its just that there is so much out there in the market that i want to make sure i get the right one for my so that if one headlamp bulb goes out and gets replaced, there wont be any difference compared to the other one thats still original.
thanks.

1) Buy replacement HID bulbs from acura - not sure of price or
2) Buy replacement HID bulbs from autolamps-online.com
The difference is that stock HID bulbs have a color temp of 4100k and the aftermarket bulbs from autolamps-online have a color temp of 6000k (just like the ones they use on the bmw's, lexus, mercedes, etc).
As for changing the bulb. All you need is a torx security screw bit (T-20) and that will remove the screw that holds plastic cover that encases the bulbs. After that its just a matter of unhooking the clip that holds the bulb in place and swapping the bulb out!

i have a 99.....so does that mean i have to get those HID bulbs...or lets so only one bulb goes out, and i wanted to get aftermarkets, do i then need to change both headlamp bulbs so that both would emit same beam?
thanks.
thanks.

There are TONS of people on the board that have gone down that path and haven't had any problems or regrets, including me!
Are you bulbs giving you problems now? If not, I don't think it is necessary to replace them since the HID bulbs will last a long time. Unless you want to upgrade to the 6000K, then that's a different story.

Actually, BMW, Benz, Audi HID bulbs have the about same color temp, but they use Projector-type HID bulbs.

Really, so their bulbs are 4100k also but the projector style housing gives it that bluish tint??

but there are alot of aftermarket bulbs out there...just wanna make sure i make right decision before shelling out a good amount of cash ...i'll probably just stick to the OEM HID bulbs...it works great for me....
Stock HID bulbs are designed to last 2500-3000 hours, which is usually the life of the vehicle...Don't worry about planning things out...
Its not the projectors bulbs that give the blue color...Reflectors just reflect light... projectors optics reflect, refract, and have chromatic abberations(the rainbowey colors you see produced by the projector), therefore they appear more blue.
No, the Ultinons/other generic 6000K bulbs are not DOT certified...But police won't know that...I mean, they wouldn't know "Hey, its not suppose to be that blue!", so you will be fine...
If you are concerned with performance(brightness), don't get 6000K bulbs, if you want color and don't mind sacrificing a little performance, get the 6000K bulbs... 6000K bulbs have 25% decrease in lumens...(brightness)
