Changes to Accord=implications for TL-S?
Changes to Accord=implications for TL-S?
So, Motor Trend reports that the V6 Accord got a 20% increase in horsepower by going to a twin cam i-VTEC setup.
Does this mean that the TL-S may also get a 20% increase in HP from a similar makeover in 2004???
260 + 20% = 312!!!!!
(I think I'm gettin' a woody!)

I highly doubt the next gen TL would get 312 HP. More HP than their flagship exotic car, the NSX. and RL? Unless there is such an increase in their flagship vehicles. But I don't think you'll see such high horsepower numbers at all.
Yes, the TL Type S has more HP than the RL. But remember, The TL originally has 225, exactly the same HP figures as the RL, the Type S is just an option, just like Navigation. But people prefer it over the TL-P.
Besides, the RL is getting outdated. It needs more HP, V8, and RWD. I agree, Honda already made their "Type S" cars better than the RL. Who knows what Honda's stradegy is.

First of all the new accord will have a SOHC v-6 not a twin cammer, most of the power improvements come from optimizing the current 3.0 v-6. I hope to see the J32a2 bumped up to around 3.5 liters to better its tourque output, as the hp will also be pushed up as well.
I also wouldn't hold my breath for a rear-wheel drive platform guys, cause the Tl has always been based on the Accord platform and I dont see this new gen. being rear wheel drive at all. So bet on the next gen. Tl being a FWD.

There will be more RWD platforms in the future for Honda. honda "tests" technolgies in different cars. The S2000 was the "test" for RWD (as well as the true 6 speed)... you will see models come out in the future as RWD.
The MDX/Pilot is also based off of the Accord platform and they still could put driveshafts to the rear wheels.
Not to say that the next TL will be RWD. But 300hp is probably nearing the limits of FWD.
The FWD Nissan Altima and RWD Infinity G35 share the same platform too.

uh.. The Odyssey is also based off of the Accord platform.
I didn't mention it because it's FWD, the MDX/Pilot has AWD. Just trying to give some examples of FWD platforms where rear driveshafts were added. VW Passat 4-motion is another example.

The Altima and Infinity (sic) G35 don't share the same platform either. G35> skyline. Same engine though, but its turned 90 degrees. Hard to turn an engine 90 degrees on the same platform. The Infiniti is the same platform as the 350Z.
Altima, Infinity(sic) G35, Skyline and 350Z= all the same platform, Nissan's "front-mid engine platform" I believe it's called. It's not that hard to turn an engine if the platform was already designed for a transverse engine. Take a look at the width of those cars and you can see that it's entirely possible. In addition, the Altima shares the same rear multi-link suspension with the Skyline. Why is it so hard to believe? It would be in a car company's best interest to be able to built as many models of a single platform as possible because it reduces production costs.
Other examples:
Civic, CR-V, RSX, Element
Camry, ES300, Highlander, RX300
Golf, Jetta, Beetle, A4
Intrigue, Grand Prix, Regal
I'm really curious to see the stats on the new TL. The new Accord definitly raised the bar.

Yes, the Altima and Skyline share the same multi link rear hardware, engine, switches, etc, but are built on different platforms. The Altima doesn't have the FM (Front Midship) platform. No tranny hump, no driveshaft tunnel, fuel tank in different spot, wheelbase, track, all different.
Quoting Edmunds.com: { The G35 utilizes Nissan's new FM platform. FM stands for "front-midship," which refers to the location of the engine.}
And none of your other examples have turned an engine 90 degrees. It's "not that hard" to turn an engine 90 degrees?

Believe it or not, it's a lot harder to fit a V6 engine and drivetrain transversely, so if you can do it, it's not very hard, relatively speaking, to move it longitudinally- especially with a long-hood Accord platform.(once again, not saying that the next TL will be RWD) The euro-accord & MDX are built off of the Accord/TL/CL platform and they're different in every dimension from each other and the USDM Accord- wheelbase, track, all different. As far as transmission tunnels, how do you think the MDX gets power to the rear wheels? Magic? Even the Accord Sedan and Coupe have different wheelbases, so does the TL/CL.
Geez, are you really that disappointed that your G35 shares the platform with a pedestrian car such as the Altima or something?

MDX/Pilot is base on Odessey
Altima is new platform
G35 is based on FM which share with 350Z
After doing some research, you guys are right about the Odyssey and Altima.
Still the Odyssey is FWD, MDX AWD.:p
Though I still think it's relatively easy to turn a transverse V6 engine longitudinally, after thinking about it, the next TL will probably still have a transverse engine.
what I hope to see, for what it's worth, haha
TL-P 3.2L gets same improvements as Accord 3.0L, and produces ~270 hp
TL-S gets tweaked version of new 3.2L~300 hp
what would be cool to see:
TL/CL gets version of 3.5L MDX engine.
limited-slip differential, or AWD from MDX to solve traction problems from the extra hp.
If the TL gets the LED dash, what happens to the cool Type-S gauges?
