What's this I hear? We can't put chains on our wheels? I am about four days away from buying a TL typs S and I want to know if I am going to be able to take it up snowboarding and put chains on my wheels or what? Can someone give me a sure answer please?

thanks

The manual says not to put chains or cables on the TL-S. Probably will rub. I would think cables might be okay, but I have never tried it. Plus I would NOT want to screw everything up if it does rub. Just get some cheapo wheels and tires for the snow.

rub?

Yeah everyone keeps saying rub, I guess I'll call the Acura ppl and find out what's up with that but what does rub mean? Like wear down the tires? Or scratch the wheels or what?

thanks,

dan

I tried getting cables thrown in when I was first making my deal, but the dealer kept insisting I dont put one on so they wouldnt include it in the package. Had something to to with having smaller rims too.

stupid idiots, I just called and the lady said best could probably do would be call www.tirerack.com and ask them about snow tires. Looks like I'll be buying some cheapo wheels for the winter since some places here require chains.

479 dollar solution

4 16 inch wheel pos and 4 potenza tires (forget what kind)=479 bucks. I haven't bought the car yet so I'll make sure the dealer takes it off the top after we're done negotiating :p .

Yes, the California regs need an overhaul in the snow department. You could have 25th century snow tires and still need cables or chains in some conditions

It is interesting to note in the CL/CLS manual, that the CL (with the presumably smaller 16" rims) can use the cables, but the CLS with the 17" rims can't

I called Acura about this -- and they said, "NO CABLES, NO CHAINS" for the CLS! I would have asked about the 16" wheels, but I could only get them to say the cables were ok on the CL.

Spider Spikes

I understand there is a product called spider spikes that will work and is legal in states like California. I haven't used them and at $300 to $350 a set they are very pricey. Anybody heard of them?

Winter tires with studs.

I put 4 winter tires with studs with cheap rims on my car and it's great, both on ice an deep snow. Local laws prohibit the use of studded tires during specific periods ie...April to November.
