Anyone... know or interested about where i can get a Carbon Fiber Hood for a 02-03TL? since OE Tunning is out of biz any ideas? or anyone of interest?

we have a member who is willing and knows how to work with carbon fiber and is starting on making one and if all goes well i'm forsure getting one... the more interest we have the greater chance we can get VIS to make us one as well.... just 15ppl is all we need

its rice depending on how it is pulled off there are ways to pull it off nice. and its a nice way to loose alot of weight.

 

alot of weight... you ever held it up just b4 the hydrualics lifts it.. the OEM hood weighs a ton compared to a CF hood. rice indeed and i eat it everyday haha but not really in for the rice... taking it to the track.... gutted!

I also got a hold of a member who might consider making one for us too since he knows how to work with CF. he also wants a hood as bad as i do...and owns a 02-03TL

 

or you can paint it. (make sure you use the right kind of paint.) carbon fiber flexes more and you will get cracks in the paint.

 

i would be up for one.... i have an antricite 03 so it will blend in ok.. but if we can actually get a hood quality built then i would be in for one...

 

i would want one. my car is DEP so I think it would look good in black. not ricer if you don't throw a big wing on the back and have emblems all over your car. how much does the stock hood weigh anyways? I bet around 100lbs, CF hood I suspect would weigh around 20lbs, does that sounds right? If I could lose 80lbs from a hood, I would be game. I also need some lightweight rims and then I'd be golden.

80 lbs sounds about right. i suspect the hood on our cars weighs alittle more than that. so maybe alittle more.

 

how much would the shipping be?? if we were to order we would need like half down?? who would we pay?? VIS?? sorry for all the questions. i just wanted to be sure on it since its such a high cost item. i really want one but just want to make sure i know all the details first. j

First of all... for all you 99-01TL's please get urself off this list if there is any

Second - this thread maybe closed if VIS doesn't sign in as a vendor in which acurazine are charging VIS $10/hood they sell. this may be added to the cost making it $410/ hood if VIS does signs in as a vendor. Since this is a free site the vendors on here supports acurazine to stay open. so if VIS doesn't comply then we're out of luck

I have molds ready for a gen2 TL-P AND gen2 TL-S Carbon Hoods to be made NOW!!!! Also available for a gen2 CL... The hoods are made to order and are made in California... I'll have actual pictures available in 10 dyas... My hood will be ready for my NBP 1999 TL-P car this coming Tuesday... Prices are tenative but this is shure that freight will be 165 dollars flat rate in the lower 48 states. I currently also sell CF hoods for the Merkur XR4Ti on Ebay as well and have pictures of that product to send to anyone interested...

what company will it be produced by? and how will we know if it is quality?

 

Mike.. this outfit that will produce this hood has been around for 6 years and currently makes approx. 200 hoods for various models each month... all finish work performed in house by hand..

I, myself became aware of this company as being a customer myself, and commissioned a hood to be produced by them for the Merkur XR4Ti.

I am now their agent and have elected to become a official vendor on a agreement with them to sell them here on acurazine... I am not at liberty to disclose the name of the people that are making these hoods on agreement, but represent ourselves as TKR Advanced Composites. We have sold numerous hoods (14 at last count) for the Merkur XR4Ti with 100% satisfaction record and can supply references if needed.

This Acura offering is a new project and our goal is to build the best products with pride in the United States. The resin selection is of superior composition in that there is no UV degredation often seen in the basement quality garbage that is imported from mainland China in that those hoods will discolor and become brittle and warp with short time and daylight exposure.

Our hoods are hand rolled and have smooth edges, and can be had in numerous optional weave complex, such as a 1x1 plain weave or 2x2 matte weave often refered to as 3K finish... and are also available in color formats.

I hope this will answer some questions and I am aware that it does not answer all of them. I plan to start a formal thread of a announcement by Tuesday the 31st when I have collected more photographs to post, until then this thread seems like a good place to keep interested members subscribed as they have expressed interest on this CF item...
