center compartment

I have a 00 3.2 TL. Does anyone know of a decent repair for the cover of the center compartment in between the 2 front seats? It seems a shame to use such a cheap plastic latch for such a good car. The only thing that seems to work on a temporary basis is to try to manually bend the latch rearward. Any help on this would be appreciated.

If the car is still under warranty the dealer will replace the center console. Of course, it'll be a crap shoot if the new one is any better than the old one.

One thing I've noticed is I think people may be pulling up on the center console at the same time as they're pressing the tab to release the latch. Over time this may wear down the edge of the tab or latch to the point where they don't catch very well. I recommend making a conscious effort to press the tab up first before actually lifting on the console.

Compartment

Hell:
Just attach a magnet latch to the inside with contact cement. Easy, simple, and no more flopping.

Console

I had a problem with my console not staying closed on very hot days. Brought it back to the dealer, and it seemed like it was a known problem. They installed a new latch - fully covered under warranty.

I had exactly the same problem - the console would open by itself especially on hot days ... i guess the metal center console shaft heats up and expands, pusing the cheap plastic latch away.

The dealer replaced it twice, now it seems oK (but of course it has gotten cooler outside). Attaching a magnetic latch may be helpful.

No perfect solution unfortunately.

I had the same thing happen on my 00 TL & had warranty work done on it last month. Check to see if you are missing any screws from underneath the top lid of the armrest. I was missing 4 screws also . They replaced the lactch & screws.
