cellphone interference
Hey guys,
Having a little bit of a problem... I noticed that when my cellphone rings in the car, it's causing intereference with the sound system, specifically the speakers. It's like it's not shielded or something. Anyone else have problems like this or is it just me? What should I do? It's a brand new car (300 miles), should I take it back to the dealer? TIA.
Regards,
Mike H.

GSM and TDMA phones from the likes of AT&T, Cingular, Voicestream, etc. are going to do this, it's a fact and unfortunately it is unavoidable with most phones. Put the phone up next to your computer and you'll see the same thing. In fact, when the network pages the phone right before a phone call you'll get the interference right before the phone rings. Even when there's no apparent activity, GSM and TDMA system wake up and "polls" the phone; more interference.
Go with a CDMA phone (from Sprint PCS or Verizon) and you won't have this problem. Not trying to be biased since I work at Sprint PCS but it's been my experience with phones and it's annoying at times. Might as well go CDMA because that's where the whole world is going to anyway...eventually.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the interference is digital phone-related only. I think analog phones don't cause that same interference.
Don't worry about it. Try to keep the phone away from the radio when it's ringing, and that should take care of it. Seriously...I used to set my cell phone in the little cubby hole between the seat heater buttons and it would cause that funny noise in the stereo. Now I either put the phone in the cupholder or in my pocket and when it rings there is no interference whatsoever.
Odd, but my friend had the same trouble with his aftermarket high-end Eclipse head unit.

My Motorola i90c creates a rhythmic clicking noise in the landline telephone at work if I keep the two close on my desk. It also makes my car stereo go a little crazy at times... as did my Nokia 8260.

Deng man... Your case is pretty bad... I only hear the intereference from the speakers but never see anything from the screen... Hopefully I won't...

8260 - ATT/Cingular (TDMA)
Don't remember analog phones having this problem, but it's been a long time since I've used one. Do they still sell analog phones?

Yeah my Nokia 7160 with Cingular does this to my TL and my friends Nokia has the same interference in his TL-S. I guess it is kind of cool when you have the jams pumping and you don't hear your ringer. Oh BTW my Samsung phone that I had with Sprint PCS never did this.
