Arrow CEL Code

I've had my CEL light on for about a couple of weeks. My car currently has 139 000km's, I went to go check it out at Acura. It's giving them a P1491 CODE wich is insuffient EGR flow. They said they will have to Replace the EGR valve and they wanna take apart the Intake manifold and look for and clean debris. The total price wille be Give or take $415 plus tax.

I know it can be done by yourself but im not gonna attemp it I don't wanna mess up anything, anyways is it possible for other smaller garages to do this job? Or can it only be done at Acura?, Also will anything be harmed if I dont replace the EGR is it mandatory?

Hi
I had the same problem 10 days ago and I took my car to a small shop and they took apart the whole intake and also cleaned the intake for only $200 and that took care of the CEL!
They did NOT replace any part at all.
Hope that helps...

Did they do anything to the EGR?? Did they clean it out or did they just leave it and clean the intake?

cleaning your IM, TB and EGR valve is easy. Takes 2 hrs if you take your time and clean it right and it is a lot of fun, you get a better understanding of your car and the pleasure doing it yourself. trust me save yourself some money and clean it yourself, there are plenty of DYI threads, do a search and you'll find them. Get 2-3 cans of carb cleaner and a can of IM & TB cleaner to clean your TB with, you will thank me later for saving you 200+ bucks.

Clean it yourselv. Its very easy and the price any shop charges to do this work is not worth it. Its a 2 hour or less job
