Catalytic Converter

Does anyone know what the progress is on the catalytic for tha TL??? I remember it was going to be like a $120 mod... For the projected performance gains, it sounded like a good deal... Just curious as to what could be the downsides of going with this mod, and who all is seriously interested in pursuing this mod...Shyne...

i already got a magnaflow cat put on at a muffler shop. it would have been $125 installed but they had to do a little custom work to get the o2 sensor to fit in. it ended up being $200 installed. i am pretty happey with it. feels like i have a lot more low end power and there is no noticeable noise gain ( however i have the aem cai and the comptech exhaust so that may be covering it up).

Just wanted to know if it would be possible to run the tl without cats. Like to get a custom pipe put in instead. What would be the pros and cons besides the legal issue??

i believe that would be illegal, and i heard that on some car having no cat at all is a big loss of both low and hi end
maybe itll gain but itll be so not worth it after all the custom werk
you can run without a cat but you will soon have engine problems like the car is running to lean/rich because itll be confused so the performance wont be smooth at all
if you do run without a cat you would probaly have to switch back to having a cat at every inspection.
the negatives are just something to not even wasting your time in

i would however find something out there thas street legal more convinient
just waitin on everyone else to find/installin their aftermarket cats.
my nickel!

More flow = more noise.

You need a cat and you need an O2 sensor. Why not remove the resonators and install a straigth pipe in their place instead? I'd do it but I'd rather not have the noise... I'm waiting for someone to do it and say its not noisy.

I dont really mind da extra noise. What about unpacking the cat or something like that. I've heard of people with muscle cars like mustangs and camaros doing this. They can open up and take the stuffing out of the cat.
