Casting defect in rotor
Noticed it for awhile but has been bugging me more and more. Bigger line is mostly smooth and barely catches on my finger nail. Other line doesn't catch. Picture is from 2 weeks ago and currently looks a bit lighter. Was told that I should replace the pads and try cutting the rotors to see if it goes away. Might go that route but I am not feeling and difference in pedal nor any shudder. No cracks as far as I can tell. Should I just replace it or cut them and sand the old pads down or continue to hope that it will go away on its own?

looks like brakes were hot when parked. Try bedding the brakes in a few times and see if it goes away.

note the op says running ebc not oe
pull the pads and inspect for wear or heat marks
its one side of car or both?
does the inner side of rotor look half rusty and half shiny? (thinking 3rd tab issue on inner pad)
San Francisco can put the hurt on brakes
if you suspect a crack- DONT resurface--that rotor could turn into shrapnel !!
DONT sand brake pads,,most contain things you dont want loose in the air and getting into your lungs
hawk pads actually prohibit that!
rebedding them a few times will take care of any surface glaze

try sanding that area of the rotor with 120-150 grit, and inspect further

I will agree with that!!
the fragmentation is pretty clear,, when it occurs

Thanks for the info guys. Glad to hear the it isn't cracked.
Haven't pulled the rotor to check the inside yet, but the driver side has the most visible ones. Passenger side has one that is very light. I'll try to inspect them over the weekend. I should probably change my braking habits. I tend to ease into the brakes and slow down over a long period of time. Auto tech teacher told me that was a bad habit, but its hard to change.
Anyone know where the best place to bed brakes in the San Francisco area is? Last place I did it was on 280S starting on the Embarcadero in the early morning. 2nd slow down pretty much nearly stopped me next to a cop that was sitting on the side of the freeway, so I kind of want to avoid that.

when bedding you should get off the brakes at 20mph
that allows time for the transition to gas pedal without dropping below 10mph
anywhere you can do 60-20mph is a good place!
followed by 15 minute freeway cool-down drive
try a freeway frontage road for bedding
you are definetly braking wrong for the parts you have!
EBC is performance, they like to get hot and get used
BUT
not by dragging the car slowly to a stop
Use the brakes harder initially, let off if needed and reapply= if the light doesnt go green in time~
the pads will thank you
If you have been doing lots of slow drag on the hills of SF, that creates huge heat,
then you come to a full stop and sit thru a light with the brakes on
= transfer layer of pad material in an undesired way
my advice: sand the rotor surface you can get to and observe whats under that mark
