Amit, Rallye is bu11sh1ting you. They always try to get around fixing your car. I went in because my rpms would drop down to 300 when i started a warm engine and they said nothing was wrong. I was like, are you blind??? The engine was about to stall and they said that was a normal idle. Take your car somewhere else and see what they say. PAA is a good dealership if you want to take the drive.

Good luck,
Roshan

This sounds like the tranny issue...I would take it to another dealer based on your description of this service reps reaction...how many miles do you have on this '03? You haven't had it that long, right?

Question

Are you guys sure that's not just the torque convertor unlocking??

I agree with juniorbean. I've been having that jerky motion on my car for awhile now. Last time I brought it back to the dealer for an oil change, I just merely mentioned it and the mechanic says it's normal for Honda engines to exhibit that kind of jerky motion. It's just the torque converter unlocking. I just wish Acura can do it more gracefully though.

Well, I never experienced any 'jerky' motions other than those provided by my TL-S transmission as it was trying to decide if it was going to engage in a gear or not...the thing that makes me suspicious is the RPM fluctuation. But again, I would have it checked out, just in case.

could this just be your tranny downshifting. That was another members "problem", after more closely examining it and comparing the downshifts with that described in the Owner's Manual....it was clearly downshifting.
Too many ppl are soo quick to jump on the "BAD" tranny issue. let's slow down and assess the issue thoroughly first.

yeah...a few cases at his dealership! remind him there are hundreds of dealerships and if each of them has one or two, then obviously it's a problem.

My '02 TLS has 11K on it. Sometimes when the engine is not fully at operating temp, it will act like it's downshifting (RPM's will jump 2.5-3K and the whole car will jerk) if I try to maintain speed at 50-60 MPH.

I believe that it IS downshifting to second gear despite whatever gear it's in. It doesn't do it all of the time, actually it's rather rare. However, based on the tranny problems that I've been reading about, I'm starting to be a little concerned. Only seems to happen when the engine isn't quite at full temp as it's never happened once the temp gets up to normal (though it has when it was JUST below normal).

On my old car, the tranny seemed to slam into a lower gear a lot when I tried to maintain speed at 40. Turned out that I had a leak and the downshifting was due to low fluid. When the leak was fixed, the problem went away. My TLS fluid is not low and there is no evidence of a leak.

Anyway, sorry about the book. Has anyone else experienced this and/or is this normal of Acuras?

Thanks in advance,

J

This is EXACTLY how my car reacted. It was around the same mileage, but it didn't do it all of the time. It did this for about 3 months intermittently...then one day driving home, instead of 'jerking' or 'shifting' once, it did it about 6 or seven times as it was hunting for a gear, and that was when the tranny went, and that was a scary day as I was in the fast lane of 6 lanes of traffic with no where to go...

Just got my car back after 3 weeks in a LS integra. Sorry to tell you but its your tranny. What you do is drive about 40 or 50mph then step on it hard. Do this a few time but be sure to do it when the car is heated up. If you feel the car drop in gears then BANG as it catches the right gear it,s the tranny.

Well, I just did the experiment today on my way to work. I've been having that jerky motion for quite some time now and never really worried about it. Anyways, I sped up to about 40 mph (supposedly before it hits 5th) and then I floored it. I can feel it downshift once down to 3rd and to 2nd. I did that again at 50mph (in 5th), punched it and felt it going to 4th then 3rd. Both times, there were no BANG noise you talked about. There's just the hesitation when it downshifted. But that's normal for automatics. It didn't need to seach for the gear. Or is that hesitation you guys talk about considered as "seaching"? Boy, just love that V6 growl with comptech exhaust and Injen CAI .
