car, hit, front damange

So the car got hit today, front damage.

Does anyone know the ratio gieco will use to determine if they right it off?

I'd rather they didn't.

if both airbags deployed and the front end is in your lap- thats a write off
If its hood fender- door, without frame damage- its fixable
Any recent repairs- maitenance- add ons like brakes and rims shocks
- those can be used in your favor to increase the value if they total it

Did you drive it or tow it away?

Tell me this was not on your seafoam run!!!

and suddenly there was this terrrible fog

Lady hit the car, front driver side fender, wheel, bumper (I just had removed to install light), driver side light and worst of all my rack. It is seriously damaged, steering is off and making noises.

Drove the car to a body shop, JUST drivable.

No airbags.

I don't think it will be a total, but I think there will be frame damage on the driver side apron, possible the rail, depending on where it was hit. Good luck and post some pics to give us a better idea of the damage when they get e-mailed to you.

Still waiting for pictures. My wife's friend has them on her camera. Right now the car is at our body shop. We're waiting for an adjuster to make an appearance.

All of this happened at around 10-15mph. When a lady drove right into my wife. It was a true accident, it was nice because everyone kept their cool. I showed up just after the police and the woman who hit my wife left.

Now we have a Nissan Versa, the large lawn motor until the car is fixed. I'm hoping it's not long.

I'll keep you guys posted.

sorry to say, women cannot drive.
I swear on all the forums I go to, the cause of the accident is 99.9999% female.

why is that? I really want to know.

Well statistically that's not accurate. Insurance companies would know and charge more for male drivers of the same age and driving record.

Poor driver training and not viewing driving as a responsibility for your safety and those around you cause more accidents. I also suspect people are too busy these days.

That all said accident rates in the state of California are down.

I know insurance for males is more costly and that's what amazes me. I guess it's the probability of someone getting seriously injured is higher since some guys drive like complete maniacs. Too bad I live in nyc where high insurance rates are inevitable.

Got some pictures. They're getting the rack checked out today, we'll see if it needs to be replaced.

its not too bad. i think they're just gonna bend it back and paint it. should be less than 1200 to fix unless they replace it.

It was no more then 15mph. I still think something is screwy with my rack though. We'll see.

Do you think it's too much if I swing by the body shop today to see what's going on?

Just to let them know your car was perfect and needs to be that way when you get it back.
Take donuts or cookies or ice cream cones as weather and time of day dictates.

Went by, got the quote. The quote is about $600 more then gieco wants to pay. Apparently gieco wants them to us non-acura parts to keep the cost lower.

you can insist on OE parts for the fender and bumper- they other person is at fault and geico wants to screw you
Aftermarket are not as strong as OE in most cases
Ask the body shop what they have experienced
Sometimes you have to fight for your rights

Your insurance agent should be dealing with this for you.
Demonstrate the value of the car by showing the recent major services performed etc.
Not a beater car, but a nice example of a TL

oh that's not that bad at all. take it to another shop and get a similar rate for arguments. you pay out the ass for insurance, when something goes wrong, you're entitled to what you paid for. and that's the car returning to its initial condition. with oem parts

I'm going to try and get in touch with my adjuster and see if I cannot get OEM parts instead of some no-name brand. My shop says the no-name brand fender will not match exactly. I wasn't impressed.

Anyone have experience using Geico to do their claims?

Looks like the other persons AAA insurance is going to pay now, they're working out the details with the shop. Maybe by the end of the week they'll start working on it.

Man I want to get out of this rental.

Just an update.

The body work is completed, I got Geico to use OE parts and the car is in for an alignment.

There is some doubt as the condition of that suspension though and we might be delayed a few more days while insurance figures it out.

We're coming to the end of our 3rd week with the rental, and we only get 1 more week. I'm a little unhappy with how long this is all taking.

So called in to find out about my car. Not picking it up today. Hopefully ready next week, it'll be 4 weeks by then.

Apparently they are ordering in a front left control arm, and ball joint. Do I need to spring for the otherside? Or can we just install one side and it'll be fine?

Car has 116K on it.

As long as the other side is within spec, there is no need to replace it.

Car is back!

Took it on the freeway and the steering wheel isn't perfectly straight. Called the body shop they said drive it another day and call them if anything isn't exactly like I want it.

I'm hoping it's just another quick visit.

steering wheel is not straight-- morons!
Take it back immediatly- if they didnt do align in house- go to the place that did it.
the ~4 wheel thrust alignment~ is what you need- not some cheapo front wheel only alignment- we are talking about a 30 dollar diff in price of the job- Your wheel was straight before the accident- end of story

With that happening- means it wasnt given proper quality control check before returned to you- so go over the car with a magnifying glass and check everything- have a buddy look too and compare results- missing bolts- headlights not aligned at all!! ect etc
assume the worst!!!

Yeah my wife and I looked over the car. It otherwise seems to be a great job. I saw the alignment print out, I think it has something to do with tie rod they replaced. Car drives straight, and handles well. But the wheel is off 2-3 degrees to the right now (it was off to the left after the crash) so the car pulls right slightly when you hold the wheel straight.

An unexpected positive in all of this beyond the fresh paint, new bumper and headlight is now my clunk on the front end is gone.

I'm going to get the car looked at by another party tomorrow to ensure everything is good and I will also bring it to a separate alignment shop to get their opinion on why the wheel isn't straight.

well the last and final post. Got the car to the shop, they fixed the wheel and we're rolling again.

Oh it feels so good. Took an hour off work and just went for a drive this morning.
