cant get axle in

Need some help guys. Drivers side axle stays out of tranny like 1/16" and is leaking fluid. Beat the crap out of it and it doesn't go in any further. Stuck and need some advice please.

Yes a new gsp axle. It slid right in but doesn't go all the way tight to the tranny. Leaking fluid out.

Does it "lock" into place when inserted into the tranny? If it does, are you sure you were sold the correct shaft? Try comparing it to your old one paying special attention to the shaft length on the part going into the transmission.

Make sure you don't have an extra clip keeping it from seating all the way. It would be about 4" inboard of where it should be. In the corner where the shaft goes from the diameter of the splines to the diameter of the seal.
If the axle is fully seated, is the seal damaged or driven in too far?

usually if your changing a axle on a 100K mile car, the seal should be toast!! its that HEAT, my axle seal wouldnt come out at first, we took it out in peices and that shit took some time

Ok, I found something that might be it - apart fell out and I don't know where it goes. It is a round spring under 2" in diameter it was somewhere by the seal. Any help?

Not the small metal one on the tip, this is about 2inches and is spring-y not solid.

I think, not sure, but it is supposed to sit around the spline on the axle? It looks like there is a groove on the old axle that matches up to it

Sounds to me like the "garter" spring got knocked out of the seal and is preventing the axle from fully seating. Get a new seal and look inside of it. Does that spring look familiar? I can't remember for sure, but I think you can drive the seal too far into the trans. Be careful.
