Canadian bros, help me put a value on my car

To my Vancouver and Canadian bros,

I'm considering selling my 00 TL with almost 29000km on it. Babied the car since i got it in May 01. How much could I reasonably ask for it thru a private sale?? How much would you pay if you were buying? I have all records. Top shape Satin Silver. If i were to sell it to a dealer, any recommendations on where to go?

Thx in advance.

Sam, why are you selling? Are you planning on getting a new TL? What's the scoop?

Patrick,

Well, cuz i just started up my own business and want to get rid of the car debt basically. Until things stabilize, i'm trying to lessen personal debt and use the money somewhere else. It'll leave us with one car, but we'll manage. So, if any buyers, the car's gone.

Damn dealer offered about 29k and I had less than 15000k on it.

Good luck though.

Scottie, it's hard to sell a modded car, because abnormal people don't do stuff like that! So if you sell your TL with mods, you may not get all the money you put in. The best solution is to take out your mods and sell them separately, and bring your TL back to stock as much as possible. Good luck!

Alex, yes it's a sad day for us. We've lost 3 TLs in the Vancouver meet in one year due to unforseen circumstances (incl. BC Inspire)! But Sam, Scottie, & Brian you're still welcome to meet up with us when we have our next TL meet!

I suggest you look in the auto trader and newspaper to see what others are asking for similar vehicles. You could also ask the dealer what they would be willing to offer, however expect a lowball offer. You probably paid $36,000 new less you're mileage which is low if you have had that car for 2 full years and I would say you are looking around $28,000 to $30,000 realistically. The trick however is to get the right buyer.Good luck.

The dealers are currently selling 00 cars with similar mileage at $32k/$33k, depending on mileage/condition. I think realistically, if i can sell privately at $30k/$31k, that would be more than fair but stretching it. Dealers would offer $29k, even at that. In my case, it would still be good as i got the car preowned to start with anyway.

Scottie, realistically as Patrick mentions, don't expect to get much back for your mods unless you find someone who wants the mods on that car, and would be willing to offer you something fair for em. To the average buyer just looking for a good TL, they may not even want the mods let alone pay more for the car cuz of em.

As for myself, I started my own systems consulting business and since flow at this time isn't steady, I could use the money. If i sell the car, and things become stable in a year or so, i'll be at the meets with a Type S or....2003 model??? Trust me, i'll miss the car for sure, just gotta plan to get another one in the future.

It sucks, friends, but i have to consider it. (I'm still waiting for my lotto 649 to kick in one of these days...i'll hold a raffle and give my TL away for free on this board!!)

Good luck to you both..... whatever you do, you have our supports... And please, join us for the meets...

Scottie, go with CLK320.... it's much better car then 325Ci... probably not as sporty, but is a much better choice in the long run.... if you do get CLK, I can hook you up with Richmond MB service department....

Sam, good luck, bro.....

Scottie,

Someone wants to pay $32k for the car? I think go ahead and sell it to him! BTW, if too expensive, mine is $31k for him!!

Last I spoke to the dealer, he was offering $26k on a trade in. But then again, he was completely low balling me cuz we didn't really sit down to discuss. I am sure you can still get $30k for it. I have seen 1999's going for $28k or $29k.

Good luck with your business!

andy kuo is rite...CLK is a better car in long run...coz BMW cars usually hang around for 5-8 years depends on conditions...

but i would go for 325ci...my friend got a dark grey one...same color as the 02 TL dark grey one..with sports package and luxury package...this car looks soooo cool compare to CLK...and this car loves to rev in high rpm...i would say it screams better and sweeter than the VQ6 engines by nissan... and it's just 52000-54000 include the tax!!! a lot cheaper than CLK

CLK is a great car...my friend got a 98 one...but i think it's for those who are 35 or older...not for a teenager like me..:p

if the dealer quotes for 29k, then private sale should be around 33000-34000...coz remember u can refund the TAX in canada when trading in ur car...

Rich,

I was just thinking of the possibility of selling my TL. Not sure yet on it. I'm gonna hang on and see how the money goes, before making such a drastic decision.

I'll let you guys know.
