Can you leave the stock filter in when removing the resonator?

Hey everyone! I wanted to remove my intake resonator today after work...but before I do so...I want to know something. Is it safe to remove the resonator but leave the stock air filter in there? I know most peeps on this board tend to install the K&N immediately, but I am not sure if I have enough time to run out and find one until this weekend...will my car be safe driving around with no resonator and stock filter? Thanx!

Sure. The K&N just replaces the stock air filter with a less restrictive filter. Even though you remove the resonator, you can still retain the stock air filter box and filter. No problem.

I had it like that for a couple of weeks, Tatewaki gave me his when we put the short ram in his TL. If he hadn't I still would be using the stock one. The K&N is good because of the fact you can wash it out and reuse it. It doesn't "protect" the engine any more than a regular filter, just allows more air to flow through.

Post no. 400 I think I'm starting to spend too much time here lately, I hit 300 a couple of weeks ago??

Just be careful not to break the front bumper cover clips when you remove the bumper cover. They can be tricky the first time you remove it. Just remember to pull straight down first, then slide it forward. See the other thread that has the DIY link.

I just pulled out the inner palstic fender it took 15 minutes to remove the resonator. What's up with pullin the bumper? Just turn the wheel tohte left and remove the few screws that hold the plastic fender liner and your there. Two bolts hold on the resonator. I think I removed the filter assembly from the top to see what was up and don't recall if that was even necessary.
