Can immobizer be defeated?
ANY alarm /security system can be defeated.
for immobilizer, just look at "gone in 60 seconds" .. plug in your own ecu and use your own key
also the car can be towed away, then these black market shops have connection w/ honda that will make them spare keys..
some alarm system are better than others, but all can be defeated if someone wants the car bad enough

Any security system should only be considered a deterrent not a guarantee against theft or vandalism. However the factory alarm as found in our current cars is tough to beat.Granted it will not prevent a smash and grab if you leave valuables in the car however I can say that to date I have not seen a single car equipped with an immobilizer actually get stolen.Vandalized yes, stolen no.The thieves rip the steering column apart look around and then give up.Usually a few bits of plastic a new steering/ignition lock and the owner of the car is back in business.Compared to a few years ago when we were doing a good business in repairing cars that had been stolen and taken for a joyride nowadays this has largely ended.Jens
Dude, if they want your car, they are taking your car.

i agree if they want your car they will get it, but it is unlikely unless they do tow it away. The keys for your car are specially programmed to your car. If someone bought a copy of your key it would not work because it must be programmed specially to your car. so it is more than possible to have a tl stolen it is likely that it will be towed away not driven
The first time I saw a TL back in 99 was at my bodyshop. The interior was all stripped away. It was the dark blue one. That's when I knew I gotta get a TL.

Well... I got myself the autolock and I feel pretty confident that the car won't be moved unless they get a tow truck... and since I'm in brooklyn my car has nothing visible laying anywhere inside... plus it looks as plain as a TL can get grey with no mods...
Hopefully it won't attract thiefs for the next 2 and 1/2 years...

Jens,
Isn't there something in the Helm manual that shows you how to disable the immobilizer???
I thought someone mentioned that a while ago.

The immobilizer system is tied with your keys and the ECU. Swapping out the ECU with a new one, in addition to breaking out the ignition lock is a lot of trouble to steal a car and will take longer than 60 seconds. So a knowledgeable thief would never even attempt to steal one of our cars unless it was in a real secluded place.
Honda/Acura immobiizers can only be reprogrammed if a working immobilizer key is present. If not, the whole ECU needs to be replaced and is sold with a new set of keys. As far as I know, there are no aftermarket ways to reprogram the ECU permanently. There is a service feature that will let you drive the car for a short distance like (100 miles) or 10 car cranks, but the car will not start after that.
Someone with some car knowledge, a Helm manual, and time can disable the immobilizer, but that would take longer than the average car thief would like.
The Autolok is good, but car's have been stolen even with them on.
I have an interest in security and locking systems. So you might wonder what I use on my car? Yeah, right....like I'm going to tell my secrets. The best thing you can do is keep a low profile about what your alarm system can do. I advise installing one brand of alarm, but putting on the window sticker of another brand. Keep the theives guessing. Keep them surprised. Keep them uncomfortable, so they would get out of your car as soon as possible.

There is one thing the thief does not have even if he shows up to steal the car with new keys computer whatever. That is the code of the day. This code is obtained only through Honda/Acura and untill it is programmed into the immobilizer and the computer etc.the car will remain dead. The code changes everyday and believe me the computer knows the code of the day even if it has been disconnected electrically.Although we have been given little to no insight as to how this computer knows what the correct code is for the day you are working on the car.Trust me when I say that I tried to program the computer with a day old code and the thing would not start the car.Not a bad system.By the way you need specific programming only available at the dealer to communicate with this immobilizer.Jens
