Can driving triptronic save mpg

Can driving triptronic get better mpg?? SImple question cause lately ive been driving all city and in the last two fillups i got 16.9mpg and 17.1mpg. I know i have a heavy foot, which im trying to cut back just seeing if there are any other ways to bring up the mpg

stay off the gas pedal- getting 3600 lbs moving from a stop takes a lot of gas
Coast to red lights instead of driving at speed then braking late
Use seafoam- new plugs if over 70, clean air fliter, tire pressure 38
Learn to drive like there is an egg under the gas pedal- easily broken if slammed on~

SS is not going to get better mileage unless you are super low rpm shifting--that doesnt sound like the case here--just drive it gentle and it will shift at 2500- thats best

I see thanks. Yea i do coast to red lights sometimes and i did seafoam a couple weeks ago, changed the plugs a couple months ago.

There is always one thing that prevents me from having a really light foot, and i think my transmission grinds gears when ever im lightly on the gas and im going around 40 at around 2k rpm. I here some kind of grinding noise up front and if i press the pedal harder it goes away and when i let go of the gas is goes away. Aslo another thing i noticed is that when this noise comes my rpm drops also. so yea whenever i go around those speeds i cant be light on the gas cause that always happens and it will keep happening until i go like 50mph or dont be real light on the gas

Constantly shifting into the next gear just after a shift will wear out our trannies. Especially with 2nd to 3rd gear clutch issues.

I meant be light on the throttle during your accelleration periods especially from a stop

If cruising at 40mph thats right on the border of 5th gear where it hunts back and forth.
Try D4 in town and see if that changes the noise
Might be torque convertor lockup- a normal function

How is your fluid?
noise could be in the cv or something else too- need to listen for it with the car on jacks or lift

Repeat seafoam in a month for max results- then good for a year
you used NGK iridiums- correct?

Ive actually tried driving in D4 in the city and it has yet to happen, the noise. So maybe i should just leave it at D4 unless i go over 45mph in the city? Fluid levels are good. Ill check cv today. Do i just look to see if the cv boot is torn or something? I dont have jacks or a lift so i cant really listen to it then. And yes i have the NGK iridiums
Thanks for the help

Jeez, my TL-S usually averages 24-25mpg for every tank. I calculate it every fill-up and I believe the lowest I've ever had was 21.3mpg. 60% highway, 40% city. Last tank, I cruised ~90 miles at 75-80mph, and was pretty spirited and still averaged 24.6mpg.

You must have a really heavy foot in the city to get 16.

short answer is NO - the triptronic won't help at all with mpg

my average is anywhere from 23-25 (mixed driving). On one trip to boston from central NJ, i recorded a 30.6mpg though - All highway!!! Apparently the car can do better - i had let my dad borrow it as he was going out of town and supposedly, he squeezed out 36mpg (but he drives like a turtle)

highest ive ever seen is 24 thats with most highway. But yea my car really sucks in the city but im sure its not only due to my heavy foot, i mean my car does have 164,000 so it may be other stuff that comes with age that brings it down. And the only cleaning ive done is seafoam through the vaccum line and gas tank. And the first time i did seafoam was not to long ago so im sure it didnt have much of an effect. So i probably need some proper cleaning in order to get the job done.
But yea isnt our cars rated like 18 city anyway

hell no to tiptronic (actually named sportshift,ss for short) to saving fuel, the computer is able to pick optinum shift points better and alot more consistently, but if you want to really save fuel in town, try losing some weight

i mean off the car like what "Inaccurate" (his user name) did with his 3rd gen TL i personally would not do it except for an all out race car, it is a luxary car afterall so they are a little bloated in the weight department

but yeah weight kills your MPG in town cause you have to accelerate and decel it, where on the highway weight does not matter as much and it is more aerodynamic drag that kills your MPG

noobs to seafoam should repeat gas and vac port methods after a month/1500 miles to get max effect...use full can in each for best result
Then good for a year
their website has more info and methods than our diy's www.seafoamsales.com

yea im not gonna take apart my car just to lose weight haha. Our cars are heavy, but ill just accelerate a lot slower now haha, no more fun

speed- while a small amount of seafoam does indeed help, using up to a full can in 1/2 tank of gas and a can in the intake vac line will do wonders for any car

Noobs should repeat after a month, so give it another try!!
Or use BG or Wynns or Honda or GM product- cost more but same type results,
warm up drive and blowout drive after are critical to max results!

I never use less than 2 (3 when i add it to the oil) cans when i seafoam, 1 full one in the gas tank, one thru the vac and one in the oil when i add it to that. 1 full one in the gas and vac wont hurt
