Camber Issue? or something else?
Camber Issue? or something else?
99 acura tl 225/40 18 tires on 18" ssr gt1 rims with +48 offset if i remember correctly (dont know if i got that i offset correct but i remember when i bought the rims i made sure the offset was sufficient) lowered 1.5" on teins. Has worked fine for two years then yesterday got a flat tire pulled over and inspected it and noticed the front right wheel had developed enough negative camber that the inside edge of the tire rubbed on the suspension and popped. Do i just need a camber kit? or is something else much more serious wrong? what could have gone wrong?
How does it get enough neg camber to rub on the suspension?? The stock setup is non adjustable and it shouldnt be possible. Is it the tread thats worn on the inside or the side wall of the tire that was worn.
The inner corner of the tire scrapped against (forgive me i dont know the terminology) a pin on the suspension that was located above the tire and inward a little bit so the inner sidewall of the tire literally ripped open exposing the metal ribbing in the tire and everything. I certainly believe something more serious wnt wrong im gonna get it checked out at the garage just wanted to try and get some ideas of what could have possibly gone wrong
Did it rub due to it going flat while moving? The tire physically cant rub there unless the tire is too to begin with (which would be due to rim size being wrong) Does the other side rub? Unless the knuckle is bent i dont see any way it would touch there.
i would guess something bent then because my rim setup has worked fine for 2 years and the other side is fine. the spot it hit was at a joint where a pin stuck down a little bit and pieces of my tire were all lodged into the suspension. I will be sure to let you know when the garage assesses it
Does the wheel look like it has more caber than the other side? It sounds to me the tire went low while driving and went into the ball joint. I just dont see any other way it could unless it was hit in the wheel buy another car or the ball joint broke (which you should have known as you wouldnt have any control or steering)
hmmm well why would it even be close enough that if the tires were a little low it would rub? It is clear the flat is from the scrapping and nothing external. I should add that I put the spare tire on and the car drove fine afterwards. I am pretty stumped. Also can't really observe how close it is until i get a new tire because all i have now is the tiny spare one which doesn't let me observe anything. After i get new tire i can pit rim back on and see how close it really is
