California reg. fee refund

California reg. fee refund
Just get a check in the mail yesterday from the state controller. It said reg. fee refund. Anyone else got that.

That sounds like something to look forward to. If I only use one plate, do you think they will refund me the other half?

I just got mine yesterday too. Apparently, with the CA surplus (pre-electrical utility extortion), the legislature voted to reduce registration fees. Gov. Davis, using somewhat quirky reasoning, decided instead of merely reducing the registration fees to make people pay the normal amount but give them a rebate because, heck, everyone likes getting a check in the mail and seeing their money as opposed to just getting charged a reduced fee! This year, however, the legislature voted to reduce the fee and stop sending rebate checks in order to avoid the adminstration fees. Pretty soon, no more checks, only reduced fees.
p.s. Bought my car 3/2/01. Still haven't received my plates yet.
