Question California License Plates?

How long does it take for license plates to come? I remember it used to be really fast, like 3 weeks. However my friend said that his took two monthes. I don't want my plates to come actually, the car looks so much better without them on....

Read this! Straight from the California DMV Website!
----------------------
Display of License Plates. When two license plates are issued by the department for a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear. When one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle, it shall be attached to the rear thereof.
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5200.htm

So if you get pulled over... Show the police officer this e-mail and tell him you only received one license plate and tell him to kiss your a**!

They always issue you two plates. Trust me on this.

When you pick them up at the DMV. They'll make sure of that too.

yup i agree...if you got a cali car with one cali plate, and it's a cali cop, i guess you have some fixing to do if it's not an actual fine (like other fix-its USED to be).

i can only see this working if you were out of state in cali.

its basically your responsibilty to comply with the law. The cop might let you off, but nowadays it seems that they are cracking down on the whole front plate issue. My buddy w/ a vette never puts his own, he doesnt get hassled that much over it. My cousins with civics on the other hand get hassled left and right. (then again it could be an age thing...38 vs 17, who nows.) I put the darn thing on and forgot about it. I got enough problems with out giving the cops an excuse to mess with my day.

As for the one plate issue, yes they do issue a single plate.....on Motorcycles.

There was a news broadcast on this subject. Apparently L.A. is losing alot of revenue from people running red lights. They installed a photo system at major intersections within the city....Of course without a front license plate the photo picture is useless...Thus the city P.D. is cracking down on no front plates.

Question

I asked this question in another forum on a similar topic: Am I the only person who thinks that most cars look BETTER with a front plate and bracket? Personally, I think the nose looks plain and, well, WEIRD without it. I don't like a gov't-issued plate, but there are plenty of things you can stick on there to personalize your car.

you *might* be able to get away with it if you have a personalized plate cuz especially for older plates if they're personalized chances are that you might only get one plate... but if its new then... yup you'd most likely have 2...

lol i had the dealer take off the front plate b4 i took delivery for the car cuz i just HATE having front plates that much... however, since ours are 2002 models it's cool if you leave your car with no plates on for a while and pretend that its still a "brand new car" ... I didnt have plates for over 3 months on my old car lol... prolly gonna do the same... *crosses fingers*

Here is my experience on the subject. I got in the most minor fender bender imaginable and the lady insisted on getting a police report on the side of the freeway in heavy traffic, even though there was ZERO damage to her car or mine. So the cop comes, looks at it, asks if everyone is ok and says ok, just get out of here since nothing happened. Oh no, this biatch says she wants a police report. Cop seems a bit annoyed, another cop comes, he tells him the story and the other cop looks at both cars. She says oh look, that scratch/ding came from his car. He looked at it and said that ding came from a car with a front license plate, and I did not have one, so it was not me. Other cop looks at it and agrees. They still had to file a report for the dumb ass but they didnt say anything regarding the plate.

I thought it was one of those things that they cannot pull you over for, but if you are speeding and they pull you over they can get you on it. Anyway, I havent had a front plate on my car for well over two years, my bro in law hasnt had one on his stang in over 3 years and they also have a lexus coupe with no front plate for 9 years... and no tickets or anything.

One rent a cop in Fairfield was drivin around the residential streets and noticed my boys truck with no front plate (he loves to pick on him) and he gave him a ticket. What a prick.

Anyway, I dont plan on putting a front plate. My dad has a S500 and just put the plate on... he doesnt want to get a ticket or anything.

Just my two cents.

Got my plate in 6 weeks, then I decide to get a personalize plate. I need to wait for another 6 weeks.

I believe it had to deal with when the dealer turn in the info to DMV.

I got the plate for my Infiniti in 3 weeks.
