CAI's in general

I've had my car for 2 years now and I'm hesitant to mod it and I'm out of job so I can't afford to mod it, but I have one question for all of you. I hear the CAI's are an easy way to boost any car's performance pretty cheap. I'm afraid of doing something my former college roommate did to his car. He had a CAI in his Vtec Integra and hit a puddle of water and sucked water into his engine and seized it or something. The car had to be totaled and he got lucky with a mechanic that didn't tell the insurance company he had the CAI and he got another Integra with the money. Is this common with CAI's or is he just that "lucky".

its not a real big boost for our cars. when acura developed the type S they modded the intake making the filter bigger and deeper and setting the air box lower in the engine comp to get colder air. You'll deff get an increase in hp and NOISE with a cai but our cars real weak point is the exhaust manafold.change that out with a set of 300 dollar headers and wow!!!

BTW if you want a slight hp increase and a good amount of noise increase at wide open throttle then remove the resonator from the air box. it's basicly a muffler for the air intake, take it out and a bit easier to breath.and its a free mod!!

Your friend didn't have a by-pass vaulve in his CAI. They now attach a by-pass vaulve which its main purpose is so water won't get into the engine. Get one installed and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I agree with the headers, get the headers and you'll definitely feel a difference. Although the CAI is noisier, you do feel a SLIGHT difference. I believe the last test they did the Injen put up 8hp and 5 lbs of torque, that was tested on an RSX.
Where can you get $300 headers???

remove the resonator from the air box

I put in a K&N on my Type-S. (that's about my mechanical limit although I put on my exhaust tips too) I didn't know that you could do this also. I did it on my Mustang and it was sort of a pain in the ass. Is it right there?
Could you explain?
Thanx

ya catchawave its much harder to explain then to actually take it out.just start unbolting the airbox and it will be self explanitory.

AND goldendragon do a search of "dailoid" on this forum it will produce the e-mail address of a cat that sells new obx headers for 335 total.
