You cant even hear it at idle. Only when pulling hard through the 5000 rpm mark.....then it lets itself be known. Dont think twice..I was worried about the sound too. Best thing I could have gotten for my Type S. Hope this helps...sorry no sound clip.

Sound of CAI
I've got the AEM CAI with the AIR Bypass Valve. Installed the CAI last week and the Bypass today. I agree with sixspdbrd, the only difference you'll here are as follows:
1. At Idle a slight hiss.
2. At full throttle below 5000 RPM, slightly more valve noise.
3. At full throttle above 5000 RPM, WOW! My boys love it, sounds like a cauphony of valve music. Scares you at first, but once you realize it's normal, it sounds great.
4. When you shut the car off, you get a little bit of hissing as the engine shuts down. Actually sounds cool. Some people who've heard mine have asked if I have a turbo!
I'll see if i can record some of this for you. The troublesome record will be the above 5000 full throttle. I don't think you can appreciate it unless you hear it in person.
Also, I have the Comptech Exhaust so you'll hear that as well above 5k.

Sound File
I'll do what I can on that recording, but I'm in Jersey. It's raining outside now and supposedly going to snow a bit. To hear the above 5k sound I'll need to be cruising and probably will need to put the windows down. I'd like it to be not raining and a little warmer than 35 degrees when I do it!
Its supposed to be snowing tomorrow, but clear on Tuesday. If we get good weather, I'll try the recording on Tuesday.

The best way to hear it is to cruise at about 35-40 in 2nd SS. Then just gun it. Its like a switch. The sound comes from nowhere. Keep the windows up to eliminate wind noise. Like posted above, you really cant appreciate it till you hear it in person. If you are thinking it sounds ricey, it doesnt AT ALL. I hate rice rockets. I want to piss on all of them. At around 5k rpm it sounds like your 3.2 V6 gets swapped with the BMW 4.4i. Sounds sooooo sweet. Get the picture?

I'll try to post a sound clip too...but if you're worried about it's idle sound don't be...it does make the car mildly louder...and it's not at much louder at vtec as throatier. My suggestion, a sound clip won't say anything, just as one for an exhaust won't...do what I did and go to a meet...and see and listen.

CAI Sounds
I agree with sixspdbrd, the first time I heard the combination of the comptech exhaust and the AEM CAI, it sounded to me like a finely tuned european sports car.
Still snowing here. Hopefully tomorrow I can record something, I plan on using my IPAQ and a remote microphone. I think that should give you a pretty good idea of the sound.

At Idle you can barely hear it.... at VTEC, it's sweet. It's a lot quieter then everyone on the board makes it out to be. And it's also a lot quieter then a short ram intake..... here's some pics. I have an Injen, but they are very similar....

My AEM CAI ships today, and i can't wait to get it. I was at my dealer today for the 7500 mile tuneup and my dealer took of my resonator for FREE so it will be easier to install. By the way how much did everyones 7500 cost?

7500 hundred check over i think was around 125 including oil change.
the intake sounds normal except over 5000rpms, then it sounds like camaro ss real deep and throaty, except more refined. then when you turn the car off it makes a hissing noise, it sounds nice.

The hiss @ idle is not loud, in fact the CAi isn't that much louder period. Get the mod, it will put a big fvcking smile everytime you floor it. **** I get so happy like a kid when I see the look on my passengers faces when I floor it!

Sup bud...and yes you are very right...I love the CAI...but I suggest you get the bypass valve. And well you can hear my exhaust, beLIEVE me...you'll see. I actually haven't done anything yet...I've taken too many trips over break...I'm totally ashamed...that and systek made me feel guilty about installing without him..come to find out he'll be too busy to help. But I still am selling those subs...haven't had time to put them on eBay but I will soon. If you want to put them I'll give you a better price than eBay. And I will be happy to help you on finding good prices and installing drop me a line...I got SS brake lines and denso spark plugs and silverstars too

Forgot to reply to the 7500 part... mine was free. Why?? b/c it's a joke and I did everything myself. I will also be doing my 15k myself. Change oil and filer (which I do anyway), rotate tires, and change ATF fluid..... screw bringing it to the dealer for $300 or whatever it costs.....

CAI Sound Clips
mbeebe,
I've attached the sound clip files of my TLS with the AEM CAI intake with Bypass valve. I also have the Comptech Exhaust so some of the sound you hear is from that. I have attached files for the following items:
Idle then to shut off
0 to 60 fast
0 to 60 normal
45 Cruise
75 High Speed Passing
The quality is just ok since it was recorded directly onto my IPAQ Pocket PC from the driver seat with the windows up in most cases. If you use headphones to listen or if you have a nice speaker setup you should get the jist of what the thing sounds like. In order to send I had to zip them, hopefully you have unzipping software.

CAI Sound Clips
Forgot to mention...
on the 0 to 6 full throttle and 75 passing full throttle, you can clearly hear when the engine passes the 5000 RPM VTEC threshold. I think it sounds awsome in person. Pretty good on teh clips but awsome in person.
