CAI-less in Seattle??

CAI-less in Seattle??
Had my 02 Type-S for almost 11 months, and I think it's time to put new headers and exhaust in. No prob...but being the rookie I am, I'm hesitant to put in CAI. When talking to my local dealer, the parts guy said CAI is no good around here (Seattle area) because of all the rain.
Anyone got thoughts on this? Is there some way to get the benefits of CAI but not have to worry about sucking H20.
Also, anyone know of some places other than the dealers in this area that would do part installs?? Not skilled enough to do it myself, but don't want to get gouged by the dealer.
Any thoughts??

i'm in portland, i run a cai w/o a bypass and my car is on race springs. if you use common sense and avoid deep puddles (10" or more) you wont have a problem. if your worried get the bypass valve.

Seattle area installers
Well, since they sell the parts (Comptech stuff, at least), you might want to see if Bellevue Acura will do an install.
Of course, they might be a bit pricey...

I checked with Bellevue Acura (bought the car through them)...and yes they want to ream me on the labor. I'll probably go through them, since their service dept. has treated me pretty good so far. That is, unless, I can find a quality shop that charges less!!

Hey "DaBeerSnob" I sent you a private message (check your inbox) as I live in Redmond too and recently installed an Injen CAI that I purchased from this site for $212.00 with shipping, it took me about three hours (I had a little trouble pulling the bumper off). Otherwise it was not too hard to install personally.

I ran my 93 Probe GT with a 2 1/2 inch drop and hotshot intake
for a few years without the plastic inspection shield under the car.
The filter was about 4-5 inches from the ground. It got stupid
dirty and dented up, but never had a problem with water. You
have to be a moron or live in flash flood areas to hydrolock your car.
Like everyone says, if you're worried... get the bypass valve.
But, you won't need it.

Hey ivan, got your IM...it was weird...I'd log in and see a flashing red "you have an instant message". I'd go to my Inbox, and nothing was there. I finally figured it out...duh!
Did you notice any improvement after installing the CAI?
Sounds like from the posts that it would be pretty hard (and stupid) to get water into the engine, even in "sunny" Seattle.
Does anyone know if a supercharger is in the works for the Type-S??

One of the main reasons that I would like it over the CAI is the placement of the filter (it's easier to keep clean and maintain) and you dont have to worry about hydro-lock (like anyone really ever does).
One of the bad things I might not like about it is the quality of the box itself (hoping to not suck hot air in). And dont forget the general rule...more parts = higher $$$.
If u do get CAI, make sure to get the AEM bypass.

im about to cut out my fake foglight holes for my 2nd gen tl...im putting black mesh in place...will i run into problems with rain hitting the cai...i know I have the bypass, but for some reason I think it only helps if the filter element is submerged in water...the bypass will still let moisture through if its not flooded correct...someone help me, thanx...Shyne
