CAI installed, initial impressions...

1. Well, for starters, the 2003 bumper is a bit different than what is in the DIYs out on the boards. I was able to remove the bumper but there are more plastic tabs than what is written in the DIYs.

2. I did cut some of the pipe where the filter attaches. I only did this because after our mock-up install, I didn’t believe the bumper would fit back on with the filter where it was at. I cut about 2" off. No fitment issues.

3. Total install time was about 2 hours with some help.

4. Whomever is worried about the "sound," DON’T worry. It sounds stock until you get past 4500 or so RPMs (probably closer to 5000). When I initially started the car after the install, my friend said, "It doesn’t sound any different." You have to REALLY floor it to hear the intake. I’m actually disappointed. I thought I would get more sound.

5. On my drive home at stoplights, I could feel the engine adjusting. Specifically, while stopped, the idle was a bit jumpy. Hopefully within a day or two it’ll be fine.

good job. you do hear a little "breathing" in the morning when you first drive. Kinda like air getting sucked into a hollow tube. I love the sound it makes when you turn the car off. The sounds of "Ahhhhhhhhhhh"

Yeah, one of my previous cars (2000 Eclipse GT) I had a short ram intake so I know the sounds.

I will agree when you turn off the car, it does sound like some big power plant is shutting down.

Humm did you disconnected your battery after install to re-set your ECU info?
That’s why your engine is adjusting longer !!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all .. congrats on the Icebox (which is what I'm assuming you have)

Second .. the car is already adjusted to the new air flow .. the whole resetting the ECU is absolutely garbage as far as I'm concerned. I've talked to three head techs at Acura dealerships, there is no use to resetting the ECU. It self-adjusts.

The erratic idle at stops. THat will persist.. part of the fun of having a CAI .. i've had that too as soon as I put the icebox on... there really is no fix for it 'ccording to my guy at Acura... if you find out, please lemme know.

Do you have headers? If not, get them ASAP ..

I just got the AEM CAI too. Does it make any sort of power different. Do you notice any change in power? Does it make any noticable change?

As of right now, no there really isn't any change. I'm going to give it about a week so the ECU can "adjust" to my driving with the new intake.

Again, unless you're always driving at 5000+ RPMs, the intake sounds like stock - at least to me.

Man the car sounds awesome now.. I love the sound it makes when u hit the gas. You can totally hear the car move. I wish i remembered how it sounded before. But ya unless you bring the revs high you cant really hear it, but i do feel more of a jump.. could be the sound thats just throwing me off though.
