Cai.......

Im planning to order an AEM CAI and i've read about intakes for the last 2 hours. I still cant decide if i should get the Bypass Valve. I know that you have to be deep in the water to get into hydro-lock. My questions are...

1. Does Bypass Valve lowers the sound?

2. Can the water get into the engine when you are at the car wash?

Where is the best place/cheaper to from?

Thanks guys.

I've had it on and off and it changes the sound a little but not that much

No, the only way the intake is gonna injest enough water to cause damage is if you drove through enough water to cover the entire filter.

i dont think the bypass valve would make a big differences in sound and as for water goin into engin at a car wash i highly doubt it.

I have the AEM V2 intake (no bypass available for it) and I was stuck in some big time rain the other day in the Houston area. After I pulled into a gas station to check the filter, it was dry other than the water that fell on it when I opened the hood. I also drove through water that was nearly at curb level (I had no other choice).

When I got the intake I was worried about driving in heavy rain and such, but I now know that it isnt a problem unless you drive in water that the filter actually gets submerged (not just damp from driving). so dont worry about it cause you would have to get in water nearly 10 inches deep for that to happen (you shouldnt ever drive in that anyway even with the stock intake system). And the bypass valve takes away nearly all the HP increase you get with the CAI anyway.

Those people probably dont have any personal experience. Trust me, I have never been in rain that heavy in a very long time and the water on the road was a few inches deep the whole time - I was worried till I checked the filter and it was just fine. Obviously you should avoid large puddles if you can and standing water, but for driving in the rain; it wont be a problem

any store that carries aftermarket parts like that...but ebay will have the lowest prices on new items 90% of the time.

That's way too high to pay for a regular CAI. Remember it's just a metal pipe with a filter. Unless you require a CARB EO#, there's no need to pay for name brand CAI. Just get a generic CAI off ebay and replace the filter with a K&N one. These generic CAI's are copies of AEM's design, so there shouldn't be a difference in performance,

My thoughts exactly. Had mine for 1 year and no problems.
