Buying Tl tom. Couple quick ?'s please help

Hi. Ive owed cl all my life. Shes gone and i found 03 tl with 62k. Very good condition. Owners family has owned it and he knows nothing about tranny or if its been replaced. I have vin number. If its still original tranny is it under warrantee? Anything else i should look for. Drove it cold today and tranny was fine cold so help me decide please. I talked him down to 9k cash is that a good deal. thanks

You can call Acura and see if the tranny has been serviced. Seems like a pretty decent deal with low miles. You should find out if the owners serviced it properly and on time. And again you're probably gonna have to call Acura to see if the VIN falls under warranty because some of the 03s don't.

02-03 tails are red and white for TL-P's also

ps. Type S motors can be found for $500 or less for anyone who is "kicking themselves" over it. most come with ECU's too

usually under 100k also.

if you like to mod your gunna spend x amount of money modding tl-p to perform/look like the tl-s so you might as well spend the little extra amount of money and grab a types

so which do you think is more?

TL-s up front? or +$ for the motor... bc the suspension wont matter speed wise...

40 horses is definately worth it. but some dealers charge 1k+ for Type S versions and you could get up to speed for hundreds less in theory.

wheels are a plus though =/

to get the 40 horse naturally your gonna need all the bolt ons and that will cost more than just buying a tl-s

i have a TL-p, is it possible to just get the Type-s cams, cam gear, ECU ect..., and bolt it onto my TL-p engine and pretty much get the 40 more hp.
it much easier to do that than an engine pull and swap.

the type-s also has larger exhaust piping. 2.5 inch i think from just 2 inch on the tl-p

o and that 02 tls with 87k dont seem like a bad deal.

I'd say around 7K for the Type-S. Try to go as low as you can, but 8K isn't that bad.

i meant just an engine swap...

the prices on the j32's out of japan are insanely low...

and mileage is just as low.

if your gonna do the bolt on a TLP the guy with TLS bolt ons will still have that 40 hp unfortunately..

i was speaking more of in terms of people who already had the TL-P

its almost cheaper to buy the engine then try to mod and catch up

the money you would spend to have someone rip the engine apart and put in new cams would be the same as buying a $500 motor and swaping it in. Dont bother trying to half ass it. If you want the Type S perfromance get the Type S engine or buy one str8 up.

I owned a TLP before my Type S and the 40 extra HP wasnt the only thing that made it better than the TLP. The blackwood grain, silver gauges, different seats, prefortated leather, tighter steering, better wheels, and other little things set it apart from the TLP. Which is why now I have the Type S.

+1

and theoretically its easier to just detach everything and swap a new motor in than it is to tear one apart and rebuild it.

you can find some killer deals on those motors out of japan. some dealers wont sell them with more that 50k on them. not a bad bargain for what you're paying for.

it helps to know somebody with an engine lift though

I made sure it was a TL-S before buying. I did the comparison based on the overall appeal. Sit in a TL-P and then the TL-S, it's almost night and day. I'd say that the TL-P is good if you're into the standard luxury look and feel for the interior. The S definitely has a much more aggresive looking interior. The guages, blackwood trim, and seats set it apart but is worth the extra $$$ if any. I'm sure you can get an S for the same price as the P.

S with more miles = same price as TL-P

or if you buy from billy bobs used car...

either way its a risk. any car lot that has the 2 cars at different prices is probably the best place to buy from.
